My guess is 8 to 10 years, not sure about AAV, maybe around $15mil?

Now, extend Nico, and try to keep either Happ or Seiya.

I have a feeling this will go better than the David Bote pre-arb extension.

I mean bote deal didn’t hinder us

I’m surprised he didn’t bet on himself. I hope he wins a few MVPs and regrets it.

He did bet on himself last year when they didn’t sign. This context is likely much more than the one he turned down

Missed 2027 with the small markets forcing a lockout might have factored into the decision.

It's not going to be the small markets that are forcing the lockouts. It's going to be the Cubs, Red Sox, and a couple of others who don't want to have to pay. The majority of the "small markets" are well below the leaked floor.

I wonder if they put in any opt-outs

Why would they put opt outs in a contract like this when they have control of the player through the 2030 season regardless?

I doubt that factored in at all. Cubs finally but a fair deal on the table and he took it.

Small market teams as well as teams like the Cubs and Red Sox are absolutely going to be the driving force in a lockout, if there is one. Especially if the agreement is putting in a floor on salaries. You just said small market teams are well below the “leaked” floor. So why would they be ok raising their payroll?

Im gonna guess this deal will be something like 6 yrs with an opt out in the 7th year, for around 22.5 per.

It'll cover his remaining 4 Arb years, with 2-3 extra years, giving him an opportunity to test the FA market after he turns 29 or 30 if he opts in.
