    It was viewed as strong at pass rush and weak at DT, I believe. but it’s not just this draft. Poles had 4 prior drafts and hasn’t taken anybody who’s been a great contributor on d line. The one guy he got was an established vet he had to trade for. It’s been a recurring theme and not just an an issue that popped out via surprise retirement announcement like center

    People were more caught up in which TE they selected than that they took a TE. The need/usage was clear. You need and can use 2. There isn’t a need/usage for 3 good ones. This is just Kmet’s replacement a year before you need it. last years draft had some good results. But doubts about Poles and the draft are about way more than last year. He’s taken a bunch of project lineman and random reaches in the 3rd/4th rounds and those guys haven’t worked. 3rd/4th rounders should contribute to your team with regularity. 6/7 round projects that fail are fine. He’s been in charge since 2022 and the defense has gotten steadily worse. The offense has improved thanks to Ben and Caleb, but you can’t pull rabbits out of asses as a Super Bowl winning strategy. They need to get better on defense and Poles has not shown anything g that suggests he capable. The “let the qb hold the ball strategy” has not worked. You will get housed by the 49ers and Rams of the world. The good QBs will love playing the Bears. They might get to a Lions level of success playing the run and gun first team to 50 wins style of football. But the goal should be better than what the Lions have topped off at. They have to at least be an average defense.

    I think from 30,000 feet it’s nice that they have safety and center likely taken care of for a bit. Kmet’s replacement is here a year early and the corner depth is fine. But the route they took to get there while ignoring more important positions (again) leaves a lot to be desired the two special team reaches at wr/lb are way too much like guys who’ve been brought in for similar purposes in recent years. How many non pass rushing LBs can you possibly acquire when LBs barely affect the game? the Afrikaners DT is a fun story but ultimately probably not much different from the Dominique Robinson “raw athlete” story.

    He’s made it pretty clear he just doesn’t value pass rush as much as coverage. Words and action support that idea. Maybe the former is a cover for the latter but he doesn’t see value at the pass rush positions. he’ll draft for special teams guys before D end.

    Motivated Dayo is definitely the theme of the offseason It’s so weird to me how much poles is willing to double and triple down on certain positions to “create competition” (LB, a couple years ago, WR, TE more recently) but nothing on the DLine. Such a bizarre roster building strategy.

    The defensive line is awful and all these RAS athletes didn’t accomplish jack horsefeathers until Caleb started pulling rabbits out of hats in the second half of last year. im sure Roush will be put to use by Ben and Caleb but the draft is about making the team better and the team needs defensive linemen desperately.

    It may be, but I do not view that as a positive. Good coaches ≠ good personnel men also, dayo has always sucked and no sane person thinks he’s good

    I can’t believe another offseason went by with no real upgrade on a bad defensive line. GB, MIN and DET must be ecstatic.

    Feels like more of a Poles things than Allen. Poles has focused on DBs and LBs and doesn’t give a horsefeathers about the Dline. He also inherited a decent D that has gotten worse each year he’s been in charge.
