  1. I once got a Lars Nootbaar at the duty free at Heathrow
  2. Can you make too many trades? Is that a thing?
  3. I remember the name Kevin Gausman which tells me he’s not a particularly impactful performer currently
  4. MacklinMore, Celebrini eclipses Carlson (and Bedard) with an 18.8m AAV for 5 years, that kicks in after this season.
  5. They’ve got a legit #1 center and maybe 4/5 legit top 6 guys. Kane is a middle six guy on a good team and will be treated like a top line wing with this group. their defense, which has been a major weakness, will probably still struggle. They went from Crevier to Byram which is an upgrade, but maybe only offensively. He’s no shutdown stud. And they have a weird grouping with 5 LH and 2 RH guys. Plus a better than average #1 goalie and below average backup. I think they’ll score more goals with Kane and Byram and Kantserov and Frondell all year. Maybe both Rinzel and Levshunov take a step up in production (but Crevier outpointed both last year and is gone). And they’ll miss Bedard for another 20+ games. if they jump a half a goal per game that’s still bottom half of league production. they could stay in the playoff hunt longer if they tread water without Kane. But it’s not gonna be a good team unless a lot of things got dramatically in their favor.
  6. Did he have one year performing up to salary? It was 4/18aav?
  7. Are you referring to the quotes in the title? They were quoting mangiapane’s statement.
  8. It’s smart PR for a guy about to be named captain. the risk is of you sign an offer sheet your team doesn’t have to match, so your locked into that other situation. And if a team offers a contract Chicago wouldn’t match you’re going to a place with a sketchy cap situation. it’s a risk most should be comfortable taking but it is a risk.
  9. Eat bread may not make it to training camp, let alone a regular season game or any shift with Kane. Even with Bedard out he’s the most likely odd man out among the forward group. if he does play minutes with Kane somebody else got hurt and/or sent down to Rockford
  10. I nominate this headline for the “will not age well” hall of fame: https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/article/blackhawks-mangiapane-excited-for-chance-to-play-alongside-legend-kane/ Blackhawks’ Mangiapane excited for chance to play alongside ‘legend’ Kane
  11. The closest Davidson has come to getting value are the Nazar and Vlasic contracts, which are middle 6 and second paring D caliber players at their best. If/when this team ever gets close to contention it will be fascinating to see what kind of gross overpay Davidson will spend on a difference maker. Other GMs will see what he gave up for Byram and agents will see what he spent on him, Kane and all the other “we’ll pay you extra to come here and eat ice time for a losing team” free agents they’ve acquired along the way. they better hope the rest of their top 6 and top 4 D are already in the organization but when it comes time to pay them will there be room?
  12. Welp, Kane is a Blackhawk again. With a mind boggling $8m cap hit. That is incredibly insane. He makes the team marginally better, and helps their biggest need (guys who can score goals) but he’s basically a PP specialist and a huge defensive liability. He’s coming off a $3m salary.
  13. Same term 3m less…, yeah, obviously
  14. Welp, we made it past his birthday with no signing. The best case scenario is they are waiting to make a trade for Robertson and signing them to identical contracts. I can only assume he’s looking for Carlson money. Davidson has been happy to overpay for mid tier and bottom talent. It’s only fair for them to demand elite money. But this team probably isn’t winning with Bedard at the top of the NHL pay scale. And they haven’t put enough around him to justify asking him to take less.
  15. Buffalo is a contender which means they probably want better top 6 options than Kane.
  16. Schedule release opens with a list of home openers. Chicago will host STL on 10/6 while playing at Vegas 9/29, at Utah 10/1 and at Buffalo 10/3. Bedard won’t be playing in any of those games.
  17. Byezerplan hes out as GM in Detroit
  18. It’s crazy to me that this is a thing in soccer, a sport that can be played anywhere at any time for absolutely zero money. my kids play ice hockey and this is the norm, but hockey is inherently an expensive sport even if you live in an area where ponds and lakes routinely freeze for extended periods of time. Bare bones equipment alone (used skates/helmet/stick) is gonna be $100 and realistically you need to spends 100s just to get started. Skating well is also such a unique skill that you can only acquire while doing it on ice for years and years. And ice rinks are limited. the fact that people spend more on some travel soccer teams than hockey is completely insane.
  19. After surgery he’s expected to recover in 4 months. He’ll miss all offseason training, training camp, preseason and first month+ of season. The new guys are gonna get a dozen or so games to see if they can be productive without Bedard.
