They’ve got a legit #1 center and maybe 4/5 legit top 6 guys. Kane is a middle six guy on a good team and will be treated like a top line wing with this group.
their defense, which has been a major weakness, will probably still struggle. They went from Crevier to Byram which is an upgrade, but maybe only offensively. He’s no shutdown stud. And they have a weird grouping with 5 LH and 2 RH guys. Plus a better than average #1 goalie and below average backup.
I think they’ll score more goals with Kane and Byram and Kantserov and Frondell all year. Maybe both Rinzel and Levshunov take a step up in production (but Crevier outpointed both last year and is gone). And they’ll miss Bedard for another 20+ games.
if they jump a half a goal per game that’s still bottom half of league production.
they could stay in the playoff hunt longer if they tread water without Kane. But it’s not gonna be a good team unless a lot of things got dramatically in their favor.
