  1. He was clearly referring to cash considerations more so than just the cap. Who pushed him that way or why he chose to phrase it that way is unclear but he obviously was not just referring to the cap.
  2. The bears are obviously the primary source of income for this team. But they have been raking in hundreds of millions in profits every year, I guarantee they’ve established multiple other income sources over time. They aren’t tech billionaires, but they do have billionaire investors among their group.
  3. Auston Matthews out for season after dirty knee on knee hit Radko Gudas gets 5 game suspension toronto should trade Knies to Chicago to rebuild
  4. The draft is in the offseason
  5. There’s a vote? the question of what can he do if they bears don’t have enough cash to negate the cap issues is draft better that is what he has to do. He’s done a very poor job drafting as Bears GM which is why the team still has so many holes this long into his tenure. He did a good job fortifying the O line with expensive veterans last year but that isn’t a style of roster building that can last. The only answer is to surround your QB with high end drafted talent. That’s all he can do now.
  6. Draft a lot better than he has to date
  7. I’m hesitant to put that much faith into a coaching staff helping with personnel issues. the bears had this issue in the past, when jerry Angelo put together one of the most talented rosters in the league and Lovie got them to the Super Bowl despite bad qb play. From that point on Lovie had more power in personnel decisions and that was their downfall. for this to work the GM, scouts and rest of that department has to acquire the right guys and the coaches have to coach them.
  8. A bad defense doesn’t necessarily need to retain everybody
  9. Dalman was unplanned. When the Bears first became aware of his lack of commitment to the organization is unknown, but still largely unforeseen, absolutely. Trapilo was known to be out two months before free agency. It was foreseen and should have been planned for
  10. It’s the nfl longterm deals aren’t a hindrance to your future.
  11. Name one guy who is a “huge” upgrade they are all lateral moves at best second tier guys replacing second tier guys
  12. Change for change’s sake appears to be the plan on defense
  13. I’m guessing Utah is not very happy with that penalty call in overtime. At least the Blackhawks got a win.
  14. Yeah that’s not that much of an accomplishment.
  15. Why would the Bears have interest in Mike Evans?
  16. He can’t run block for horsefeathers and he played in a garbage division so it wasn’t that hard to not give up sacks against that schedule. But then he did in the playoffs once he faced decent opponents he’s a bad starting center you can try to hide between quality guards, or hopefully replace with a younger guy and use him for depth
  17. I would like to see the wild flame out in the first round of the playoffs to spoil Quinn Hughes’ impression of the team
  18. Not really interested in Crosby for two firsts but if they get something like third round picks in return I wouldn’t hate it. 3rd rounders should still be contributors even if they have very little chance of being difference makers. This team is gonna need picks to replace older players once Caleb gets paid. And Crosby probably only has 2-3 years of being an impact player. Sweat only has 2 years left on his deal. You’d have to draft their replacements in 2026/27/28.
  19. Foligno to Minnesota where he’ll play with his brother, and against the Blackhawks twice this month. Bedard and bertuzzi will wear the A. nobody gets a C until Connor gets it next year, imo.
  20. Kind of makes you wonder what the guy who signed them in the first place was thinking
  21. Make it 5 firsts and 7 seconds in the next three drafts. if Florida ends up top ten this years that’s 3 firsts in 2027, just begging to trade two of them for some established scoring threats but they’ll be happy to take some guys that won’t go pro until 29/30
  22. Another frustrating come from ahead loss last night. It helps their lottery status but not their “let’s see these young guys take a step forward” status. Florida also lost in a scrappy affair at the devils. Florida, NJ, Winnipeg and Chicago are all bunch together in the bottom half of the top ten area for the draft lottery. Florida keeps their pick if it’s top ten, with chicago then taking an unprotected 2027 1st. Everybody expects Florida to improve next year with Barkov back from knee surgery, but that roster is old and becoming perpetually banged up. So who knows where they’ll next next April. Ben Pope wrote that Boisvert is expected to sign soon with BU season winding down. Not exactly breaking news but he and Frondell could he playing in the NHL this month. Boisvert is a maybe a top 6 guy at best, but probably not a huge difference maker. I think he can be a valuable guy if he makes it to a second nhl contract, but I don’t see home being a longterm contributor with several other forwards ahead of him in the pecking order.
  23. If you’re solid at both guards I’d think it makes sense to be working in the more affordable range for C now.
  24. They made it official so before any additional trades, likely at least one, the hawks have in the next three drafts: 4 firsts 7 seconds Plus an extra fourth. as they bring in more and more of their prospects they will need to make contract decisions sooner rather than later and by 29/30 they may need to make some rough decisions. These 11 picks can be very helpful for backfill once they move on from a bunch of this current batch of prospects. but more likely than not they will be looking to make trades of draft picks for players at least by the lead up to the 2028’draft, if not sooner. I would not be surprised if they get another ‘27 or ‘28 pick from whoever they trade next. And other GMs are probably going to be fine dealing picks further out on the time horizon.
  25. Make that a 2028 2nd rounder, which gives them more than two picks in the first two rounds each of the next 3 years. By 2028 Edmonton could be a lottery team, potentially making that pick more valuable, despite the cost of time
