  1. They traded Burakovsky…, must be clearing cap space
  2. If Buffalo ends up dealing 4 for Knies or Stenberg drops there I’m gonna be furious. Rumors about Robertson and others are probably smoke but the trade he made does mean Davidson has to be more IN on the present day than ever. You can’t trade for and presumably sign a (we are praying) 1D and then not also try and get better up front. If he’s done stockpiling 1s, then go ahead and deal all three next year for something good. Sign Bedard, Byram and the new guy to big deals and you have your core, with a bunch of cheap talent around them for two years. Figure out who to keep later.
  3. Waddell offered little insight in a news conference Thursday, but he confirmed that the Columbus future of Norris Trophy-winning defenseman Zach Werenski is very much up in the air. When asked pointedly whether Werenski has requested a trade, or has made it clear to the Blue Jackets that he doesn’t plan to stay with the club after his contract expires following the 2027-28 season, Waddell demurred. “I think, for right now, there are some matters we’re dealing with that should probably stay internal,” Waddell said. “My plan is still to meet with Zach in the near future and see where he’s at. “We’ve had conversations with his agent, but there’s been no definitive plan for sure.”
  4. Hold F(T)uch Buffalo is wheeling and dealing
  5. Which very well could end up being the same issue with Byram, who should be fine but probably should not be treated like a #1 D with a $12m contract for a team lacking star player at F.
  6. Seth Jones was and is fine. the problem was trying to make him the savior of a dying dynasty and then him being on a compete dumpster fire of a team
  7. To be fair, I really wanted them to trade the pick for a top 6 F. A top 4 D is roughly equivalent. I would have lived with the 4 straight up for Knies so I probably would have lived with 4 for Byram straight up. It’s all the sweeteners that really suck. And now this team still needs top 6 F help and RHD.
  8. 45th and Crevier obviously wasn’t coming close to getting it done. 4th straight up was an overpay though. I’d rather have seen them trade two of next years three picks with top ten protection. the trade cost is so high but now you also have to commit to this guy as a #1 defenseman without him ever showing he can be one with a huge extension and accelerate the cap crunch. And hope that one of your internal guys can leapfrog him. also, Korchinski has to be nearing the end of his time as a guy way down the LHD list now. Who the hell even is your 3rd RHD? Trade for Dougie Hamilton?
  9. In a division with Hughes, Makar and Heiskenan as top D man, to settle for Byram AND give up a ton AND give him a contract he wasn’t getting from his team…. the pithy trade with islanders to move up in draft spoke volumes about Davidsons concern for value I hated the tank but they undoubtedly acquired a ton of draft capital anyway. To give that capital away diminishes the purpose
  10. So best case scenario they extend him today for like 8/72 and he’s now your #1 LHD by default and hopefully Arty or Rinzel eclipse him. Worst case scenario he plays out his UFA season and goes to a good team next year.
  11. Context clues is all I’m saying. If people are talking about a trade in the Blackhawks theead and you’re lost…, google it
  12. Greenway is a total dump and a sign Mikhayev ain’t coming back. nobody helping the top 9 forwards here and maybe a guy who can settle into a solid top 2 D role. what a waste of a top 4 pick and the 40th plus Crevier, who established himself as at least a legit top 6.
  13. YOURE IN THE GODDAMN BLACKHAWKS THREAD google it
  14. The one the Blackhawks made
  15. Insanely high cost for a good but not great soon to be UFA defense man
  16. If he’s going to trade 4 it’s not going to be until draft night, when the acquiring teams no who is going to be available at 4. The 9th pick has been traded twice now but that’s a pick after the top tier guys are gone and you have to be comfortable with any one of the tier 3 guys
  17. Wait. He could trade the pick for Knies and really go into 2026 with a potential legit top 6. but is he going to view that as best road to the title? Davidson isn’t interested in short term fixes and has no pressure to make it. he could draft Reid at 4 and put Rinzel and Arty on notice that 2026 has to be better. Best man gets a contract and Reid replaces the other in 2027 after his first year of college. Then see what teams are huge disappointments in 26/27 and trade two of his first round picks for another forward.
  18. The trades are flying. Sharks trade from their perceived glut of forwards, dealing Eklund to Ottawa for the 9th pick that was acquired for Tkachuk. Probably increases odds that San Jose has space in forward group to draft Stenberg at 2, and deal with D depth at 9. STL also traded Kyrou to Washington for the 16th pick.
  19. Devils trade Nemec and Tsyplakov to Calgary for a defensive prospect 2 firsts and a second. Devils needed to clear out some D, but they need to acquire a scoring forward. A couple of late first rounders may help that, but not moving the needle for a big name. They also would love to move Dougie Hamilton to clear cap space.
  20. Stan doubling down on his Blackhawks guys, signing Murphy to 5/20.5 4+ cap hit isn’t bad for a dependable second pairing D man, but Murphy may be entering third pairing territory, especially for a team with Stanley cup aspirations. Again, gonna assume McDavid likes him.
  21. I think the Blackhawks 4 matches what Ottawa got, but not sure Brady is the type of player Davidson wanted. He’s a good player, but more hyped by proximity to his brother and Olympic glory rather than NHL production. I would have been happy with Chicago making that overpay.
