  1. Corey Pronman with a pretty wild top of the list for draft prospects. He’s got three D men to start, Reid, Šmits, Verhoeff. A lot of people have Reid or another D at the top of their list. But most people have kept the early season presumptuous first pick Verhoeff toward the bottom of the top ten after a disappointing season. He had Verhoeff and Šmits going 6 and 8 in his mock so he’s definitely not just relying on common assumptions about these players. McKenna and Stenberg round out the top 5. I think I’d be fine with McKenna, Stenberg, Reid or Šmits but not interested in any of the other RHD (at least Reid has “special” upside). None of the D are going to play NHL minutes next year so it’s not like the current logjam on the blue line is a big issue. At least one of those guys will be out the door or on the way by this time next year and Reid could realistically be looking at 28/29 season introduction and by then the logjam should be clear. but a F is much more pressing of a need, since this team cannot score enough with current players. and I’d still like to see what kind of current quality F they could get for the pick this year
  2. Oilers hiring Babcock seems like a hilarious misinterpretation of the Vegas/Tortorella story
  3. Skeptics are gonna see the Hawks as a team that is a year or two away from being Detroit, a not good enough for playoffs not bad enough for lottery luck group. I don’t see a 30 y/o sick of missing the playoffs every year being open to coming to Chicago. You’re probably sending back Nazar and picks in that deal. It could make sense for Chicago but does Detroit want draft picks?
  4. We don’t have an EPA. There will be no repercussions for companies that kill in the near future.
  5. I missed most of the game. But that Marner block definitely saved a tying goal with seconds remaining
  6. Both goalies are capable of falling apart at a moments notice. Vegas only needs three more wins but it’s hardly over. Carolina can still make noise.
  7. Biggest snag is San Jose likely very open to trading down below Chicago. SJ has #20 as well and could be in a position to stockpile defensive prospects a little lower.
  8. Vancouver hiring Malhotra feels like it almost guarantees they draft his son at 3, which almost everybody has mocked at this point.
  9. The Bears didn’t have anybody possible comparable. that’s the whole reason we’re in this defensive predicament
  10. You don’t know if the bears had a Jared Verse on the roster?
  11. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088323/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk
  12. Since this was a ‘27 third, the future 1/2/3 rounds picks now look like: ’26 (1,2,2,2,3) ’27 (1,1,1,2,2,3,3) ’28 (1,2,2,3) that’s 5 1s, 7 2s, 4 3s. 16 contracts that will have to be added to the 50 contract maximum. At a minimum they should be looking to trade away 2 1s and three or four 2s/3s within that calendar year. That should be enough to acquire one top 6 forward and a halfway decent D man.
  13. I’m not worried about the individual. I’m worried about the surplus causing losses. They already lost Dominic James to Tampa under similar circumstances. He saw a quicker path to NHL team with a better team. you cant keep selecting multiple 1/2/3 round guys and get them in the system. The surplus loses value when you hit the extreme end
  14. The prospect stockpile backfires again. It was recently reported that hawks prospect Jack Pridham had to enroll in college, sign his entry level deal or go back into draft. He didn’t want to be the 14th best prospect in this system so he was traded to Tampa for a third round pick. this was a third round pick that has looked good post draft, but now Chicago loses him for another third round pick where they will have to work to get equal value. this is where the quantity over quality issue bites you. Guys don’t want to be 4th liners. Chicago somehow doesn’t have a legit top 6 but also doesn’t have room for more middle 6 guys. Draft capital is great but there are diminishing returns. They need to trade surplus for quality
  15. This Claude Lemieux news is devastating
  16. You can’t have one without the other and they shouldn’t have either. bad question that eliminates valid opinions from the discussion
  17. They snuck by Tampa in game 7 of 1st round with 9 shots on net
  18. Oh no doubt injuries mattered. Probably goes hand in hand with the tougher road to finals being from that division. but Vegas has talent and are not a surprise finalist. Sure a sweep is a shock, but not a win.
  19. Marginal talent? Vegas was a Stanley cup contender entering the season. They have Jack Eichel and Mitch Marner on the top line. Those are two guys the hawks are praying their own players turn into. Mark Stone is better than anybody the hawks can dream of being in their third line. They don’t have a superstar D but their D is much more stable and dependable than Chicago. Their goalie is probably a rapist Canadian maga guy everybody should hate, but the team has plenty of talent. they also got to play a cupcake division and first two rounds of playoffs in comparison to Colorado going up against Dallas and Minnesota all season and the wild in playoffs.
  20. this years team trying to figure out the best way to maximize fan disappointment
