    Toronto got the better player that didn’t want to sign in Columbus while the Blur Jackets got the younger player who is actually signed longterm, which is a huge advantage for that team. Knies probably doesn’t have the leverage to demand a trade in a couple seasons, but CBJ has to get good in next 2/3 years or that’s going to become an issue again.

    What a bounce back game for the Bears against Philly. Winning the games that were 50/50 entering the season can go a long way to making playoffs. Beating another NFC contender helps a lot too. But you have to follow up with home wins over perrenial losers. The Jets aren’t terrible but they know how to lose. Chicago has a QB decision to make, and while they’ll want to keep the opponent guessing there’s not enough variation in Keenum and Bagent to make game planning an issue. This will be a rare Sunday game I get to watch live in the NY market. back in the day this AFC team visiting the NFC would be a rare bears game on CBS and possibly bring their top broadcast team. Cowboys/Texans, Rams/Eagles, Packers/Bucs are the other early Fox games competing for marquee announcers.

    If you listened to his postgame interviews that was a man that felt he went out on top and will be paying the price physically this week. I think he thinks he’s not starting next week.

    I think this still qualified as weird in that it was not weird at all. Just a methodical butt kicking with the defense being strong and Keenum operating like a surgeon

    I didn’t mean this season, just that instead of losing his job with JJ he can win some games with vets again and stick around until he gets to draft another guy.

    They aren’t huge steps up but they have a baseline. This looks like the opposite of how the Bears handled Mitch when Nagy came on board and realized Trubisky was a moron that wouldn’t be able to run a quality NFL offense. They stuck with him anyway instead of cutting bait. They sort of fixed Darnold and moved on for McCarthy but immediately regretted it. If they can keep this team competitive with two castoff QBs (so far so good) he may get the rare second chance to find a franchise QB.

    The one roster question exiting the preseason has been answered, with Landon Slaggert placed on waivers. There’s a better than zero chance he gets taken by a team that could use a capable NHL player with a minimal cap hit. Hopefully he clears and remains as depth in Rockford. and good luck to Blashill trying to work in Korchinski and Del Mastro as 7th and 8th DMen.

    I believe a defense team can and will win in the NFL. The issue with defense first teams is they cannot last. Good defenses require young healthy studs all over the field. Defense age out, get expensive and/or hurt too easily. But in any one season you can ride that wave.

    You’re unfamiliar with the NE corridor if you think Baltimore is close enough to Boston for fans to drive if they want, especially for a meaningless game

    40-26 loss wouldn’t be that weird to me.

    The crippling week 2 loss to the projected 4th place team in the division hurts, but does not sink the season. A loss at home against another NFC opponent is going to make the road to playoffs 2027 even more difficult. I have to assume the Eagles rack up the points and Keenum will make some use of his skill position guys. But the Bears are 4.5 point dogs and the over/under is a measly 41. This is likely to be a throwback unwatchable Bears game with no Caleb. But let’s hope for some entertainment at least.

    Oliver Moore extended 5 years 4.35 AAV. If he fills the role he’s expected to fill that’ll be a nice contract. But he’s got a lot to prove still and isn’t a lock.

    I would settle for being in the hunt in March. The vibes in the UC on March 16 if the Hawks and Sharks are fighting for a spot will be tremendous. The following road trip could rip out hearts (@utah, @colorado, @MINN, @Columbus) but for that trip to even be meaningful would be an upgrade.

    Well Byram proved he can provide the offensive spark against AHL opponents in the preseason. A preseason win in OT is about as meaningless as it can get. But one of the specific things that hurt Chicago last year was OT results. A puck driving offensive threat on D helps a ton in 3v3 and Byram is expected to help there. If he can actually manage to be a positive impact in that area alone that’s probably 5/6 more points they could pick up in the standings. And if he actually turns into a legit #1 Dman, the complaints about what it cost to get him will subside and this team could make a big leap sooner rather than later.
