  1. I know that. I am asking because several posts I read after the Cubs lost 2 in a row to the Mariners suggested the Cubs didn’t have any starters they could depend on and because of that, expectations of them in the playoffs was very low. I was happy with Holmes and Guasman before these starts.
  2. So for those who thought the Cubs didn’t have a starting pitcher they trust, has opinion changed the last 2 nights? I kind of like what I am seeing from Holmes since he got here, and Gausman was pretty damn good last night.
  3. I think it is a mouthguard Edit: I don’t think it is a mouthguard. But no idea what that is.
  4. Hitting into some bad luck. Hitting the ball hard and at people.
  5. That is the best ranking Cubs minor leaguers have received anywhere. I noticed Rojas was 95th. Kepley seems higher than anywhere I have seen him, previously.
  6. Why? I don’t see a need for that.
  7. But not Atlanta, if the Phillies pass them, of if the Cubs pass the Brewers. And I think even if the Cubs beat them 2 of 3 Atlanta wins the next tie breaker after head to head.
  8. I agree with this. Not sure who has more value, but if I am the Cubs either Shaw or Ramirez is moved next season for a controlled starting pitcher. I think they keep Seiya somehow and sign Holmes. Fill the other outfield spot with a combination of guys like whoever is not traded (Shaw or Ramirez), Alcantara, or a FA signing like Conforto. I guess if they can’t bring Seiya back they can trade one of those guys for outfield help (Abreu, as an example) and then spend what they would have spent on Seiya for a FA pitcher. But I like the idea of a young controlled pitcher better.
  9. I get your 40 man explanation. Yes, there probably are a lot of spots. But I do think if he is up he could make the playoff roster. They don’t have to carry 13 pitchers. In the first round it will be only 3 starters so that adds two more spots. Why not have a 3rd catcher in the event you get caught with a second catcher in the game getting on in late innings and you want to pinch run. I think it depends on how many bench guys versus pitchers they roster. But a 3rd catcher isn’t a bad idea, at least in round 1, where you probably only roster 3 starting pitchers.
  10. Pretty much how I see it as well. I think Milner and Theilbar are pretty interchangeable. You have Milner, which is fine. Either way, it will only be one of them. One quick question. If the minor league season is over and they bring back Steele for Rolison is that a dfa or is it sending a guy back down to the minors, who has an option left?
  11. That works for me as well, as long as the plan is for him to be a 3rd catcher on the playoff roster. If not, I would leave him in Iowa and not have to mess with already ever changing 40 man roster. With the possibility of Milner, Brown, Steele and Miller all needing a roster spot I don’t see them adding him just for the regular season.
  12. Kelly should stfu. If Berry was where he was supposed to be while coaching third there is no rule that says he can’t steal signs. Maybe try pitching better next time.
  13. Honestly the 14 man staff once they can bring a guy up isn’t easy to navigate. If Cabrera is ready I assume he would be the 14th guy. But you have Milner, Assad, Miller, and then, mid September, possibly Brown and Steele. Of the first 3 mentioned I think Miller is the most exciting, if he is healthy. So if you add him I would think either Rea or Civale is dropped. I would want that to be Rea on the chance the Cubs have unlocked something with Civale. If they like Milner more than Theilbar that is an easier 1 for 1. I don’t see both in the team. Sadly, to a lot of Assad fans, I don’t see him on the team either. So now when Brown comes back is it Thornton is is it whoever they kept between Theilbar or Milner? If Steele come back I would guess whoever was was left from the trio of Thornton, Milner and Theilbar. With Miller and Webb being reverse split guys they won’t need Theilbar or Milner. They would have Steele and Rolison in they own. All of this moving around and I don’t see where Assad fits in. (Unless they release Civale) Note: Thornton has kind of turned it around a little lately. Throwing harder than even and getting some K’s. I’m not is a huge hurry to see him go. I just don’t know what they do if they do get Cabrera, Miller, Milner, Brown and Steele all back. I guess it is a nice problem to have🤷
