    He took a hometown discount on his last contract and I imagine he would be open to it again. I've seen no indication he was unhappy here. And he is a man who never looks happy.

    I would rather keep Happ. I like Happ to post better offensive and defensive numbers in LF. I know Happ is streaky and didn't have the best summer but he's overall been solid and think he gets an unfair rap. And there are honestly not many better options out there.

    Would absolutely do this. Though Soderstrom is probably too big an ask, and he and Butler are signed cheaply for a few more years, which is probably valuable to the A's.

    I feel like McCullough has nothing left to prove at AA. Do they start him or Caple or Dean in Iowa? Feel like they should all be there.

    So as it stands we have C- Amaya, Ayers 1B: Busch 2B: Nico SS: Dansby 3B: Bregman OF: PCA, Alcantara? Shaw? Ramirez? SP: Steele, Brown, Cabrera, Garrett, Assad, Wicks, Noland, Wiggins, Kipp, Sanders RP: Palencia, Webb, Zeferjahn, Rollison, Roberts, Hollowell, Riley Martin, etc Pitching is pretty bleak. A lot of holes to fill. I'm kinda hoping they keep one of Gausman/Holmes but even if they keep both it's not enough. I wonder if they let Ayers have a shot at doing a 1a/1b with Amaya next year and sign a AAA veteran or if they try to bring back Kelly or someone like him. I love Ian Happ and would welcome him back but I think we can do better. That said, he would probably take less money to stay and I assume Seiya will command a lot on the market.

    I would love to add Morejon to the pen but I don't know about that. If there are teams willing to offer him SP money then we're out.

    Not sure where to put this but FG and Pipeline had him as a top 20 prospect recently and he was a top 10 prospect and considered borderline Top 100 by FG in 2024. Was an infielder before transitioning to pitching in high school I think I read. An interesting add for next season if he sticks around through the winter.

    I remember Fangraphs did a writeup of Assad 2 years ago and basically referred to him as a kitchen sink pitcher who continually makes it work despite all odds and I keep thinking about it. He's definitely been an unheralded part of this team.

    Former Top 100 prospect who has played every position except pitcher and catcher. Has some pop and plays solid defense but never put it all together in MLB. Still just 26. I rather him than Owen Miller right now.

    I think we need to take a moment to appreciate Peterson. The rotation was falling apart, Jed made a deal to help stop the bleeding and Peterson has answered with a 1.57 ERA over his last 5 starts. Granted, that number is not sustainable but commendable job to keep things together through the deadline and beyond.

    I think this is all fair. I did want Holmes, and I think if he sticks around after 2026 I'll feel a little better about the trade. And I've warmed up to Zeferjahn the more I've read about him and we have him under control for quite awhile. If he ends up as closer or an elite setup man, it will be hard to argue against this one. I do think Mo will catch a bit and have a good career so that's where I'm at. I'm no scout and clearly the Cubs thought this was fair value for him.

    I gave it a solid B. I'm still miffed on trading Mo Baller and Rojas in those deals so that brings it down for me but I absolutely cannot complain about the guys we acquired. The fill both immediate and future needs. Gausman and Holmes were the two rental SPs I wanted most.

    FG ranked all the traded prospects. There were 95 of them overall. Rojas comes in 5th with a 50 FV, Long at 49 with a 40 FV. The other 4 guys (McGwire, Beck, Bateman, Southisene) out of the top 50 with a 35 FV or lower. They called the latter two "very Toronto" and don't seem high on McGwire.

    Don't he and some of the Cubs FO have history together? And doesn't he work out in the offseason with Ben Brown? Certainly helps.

    Former prospect Christian Franklin was traded by the Nats to the Orioles yesterday and the Orioles are adding him to the roster to make his MLB debut.

    Holmes' player option isn't honestly that expensive. I wouldn't be upset if he exercises it but conversely I wonder if we like what we see and turn that option into a 2 or 3 year extension instead.
