I think Kwan is definitely someone Jed will kick the tires on. He fits his defensive minded profile and is a cheap bridge guy from Happ to whoever comes next.

I'm not ready to give up on Horton starting yet. I'm hoping it can be similar to a Drew Rassmussen situation. Hopefully this will be the last major issue for him for a while idk. I'm not counting on him throwing any meaningful innings next season.

Really hope CB is a priority at the trade deadline.

Happ was the 3rd highest paid LF in baseball behind Soto and Yelich in 2024 when the deal kicked in and 5th in 2026 when it ended. I think he was paid a pretty fair market value at the time considering the factors at play. Yelich was still in the middle of that 9 year deal coming off his 2018 MVP season and Soto was in his final arb year. I guess you could make the argument that the difference between 21 mil and 26 mil was a discount considering how much better he has been than Yelich since he signed the deal but I dont know. He's also been the Cubs union rep for a while. I'm not sure I see him taking a home town discount no matter how much he likes Chicago.

Throwing a name out there and even though he doesn't have the power we need, Steven Kwan seems like a trade option this season. He would fit Jed's value on defense and is an FA after 27. He does hit and get on base... Lawrence Butler could also be an option as a buy low candidate, And we still should be trying to make a deal with the mariners for pitching.
