I agree with the ranking, 100%. I don't even want to imagine how they went without Webb. It'll be interesting to find out what they're going do with the rotation with the addition of Holmes, Gausman and Cabrera.

Because he was very good last year, and Craig wanted/hoped he would get better. The Cubs had 6 runs lead, and it was good time to use him. Aside from Zeferjahn, we didn't get any bullpen help at the deadline. When the guys like Palencia and Milner come back, and/or Rea/Assad move to the pen, I think Thielbar will be gone. My guess is Milner will replace the lefty RP position, unless they still think Thielbar could be good again (if that's the case, Rolison would go back to Iowa, but I doubt it)

Wow. I just found Mize gave up 8 ER's in 3.1 innings, his first game as a Padre.

I wanted to make it A-/B+. Since there's no + and -, I graded it "A". Before the dead line, I wanted Holmes as a rental, a younger controllable guy like Detmers or Hancock and a good RP. IMO, Holmes is arguably the 2nd best pitcher available. We got Gausman first, instead of Holmes, so I started wanting Detmers, Kirby or Hancock. Then, there was the Cerami's fake tweet or whatever that was. Like most people, I believed it, and I was happy. Then, we found that was a false alarm. At that moment, I figured a controllable SP would be too expensive, and wanted Holmes again. And, we got him + Taylor as a bonus. Yes, we gave up Rojas, who was blocked, anyway, but we didn't give up Ayers and Hartshorn. Heck, we didn't give up Pedro. I'm hoping Amaya and Ayers will be a good catching duo next year. I didn't want to see Mo traded, but Zeferjahn looks pretty good, and Mo didn't have much value to the Cubs, because of Ayers + his struggles in Iowa. So, I'm fine with it. As for Garrett, we have to wait, and see. If Holmes pitches well for us, we should re-sign him. If Ayers is a real deal, we wouldn't need Carson next year. One (two?) last thing was about Shaw and Alcantara. I was surprised Alcantara wasn't traded. I guess, either nobody wanted him, or the Cubs still thinks he can be a decent corner OF, and valued him higher than other teams. And, Shaw has been on the IL for a while, and other teams didn't really want him. Maybe, Shaw or Pedro will be traded in the off season? I don't know. Either way, again, I'm pretty happy with the deadline, because my main target was Holmes to begin with. The reason why I wanted to grade this A-/B+ was because we didn't get a young controllable SP, other than Garrett.

This is my guess, but when runners on, and/or high leverage situations, Javy's concentration/intensity goes up (intentionally or unintentionally, I don't know), and he gets the results. He (and most pitchers, I would think) can't keep the high concentration/intensity for every hitter he faces for more than a inning or two. So, I have to think he's doing it intentionally, or you can say strategically. It's hard to understand what's going on with Javy for years. That's probably why we call it Assad magic.😁 My brother call him our ace, not seriously, but if you look at just the ERA, since June 1st, as a SP, he has the lowest ERA on our team. Javy does have lower ERA, xERA and xFIP (since June 1st) than Boyd, but not as good as Shota.

Depends on how they will pitch for the rest of the season. Maybe, Cabrera goes to the pen, instead of Holmes. Otherwise, I agree with you. If Cabrera can prove he's actually good, like we're hoping, having Holmes in the pen would be a big deal.

Sweeping LAD is awesome. Pretty frustrating game, though.
