  1. Thanks to old friend Cam Smith's HR, the Astros beat the Phillies today, meaning the Cubs will be 1 GB Philly with 15 to play while holding the tiebreaker over the Phillies. If you are an optimistic fan, still a chance to have WC Round hosted at Wrigely If you are a pessimistic fan, one more potential "out" the Cubs have to avoid missing the playoffs as the Phillies would just have to play 1 game worse than the Cubs the rest of the season for the Cubs to finish ahead of them. Edit: Though for whatever reason the results of the day have caused the Cubs playoff odds to go down 0.2%. I wonder if its because the Braves won over a strong Rays team, making their upcoming 3 game series seem more difficult for the Cubs.
  2. Tonight’s results dropped the Cubs to 96.7% odds of making the playoffs, down 3.1% from their peak of 99.8% last Saturday. At their highest point in 2023 their playoff odds were at 95.4%.
  3. Diamondbacks lose! cubs only lose 0.5 games off their lead and remain 3 up in the loss column with 15 to play and hold the tiebreaker. So essentially still 4 up Yes the cubs play is depressing but I’ll take whatever good news we can get…
  4. Nate Pearson of all people is on for the Royals to close out the Diamondbacks with a 5-2 lead….. has not started well
  5. Why exactly was Kelly PH for? Was the matchup that bad that BJ had to hit there?
  6. Cubs are going to win the RD battle over the 7 game series!
  7. Insane that even in a relatively low pressure environment he still can’t prevent giving up a run
  8. With 15 games left in 2023 the Cubs were 2 games ahead in the loss column over the DBacks and Reds for WC3. I believe they were losing the tiebreaker to both teams With 15 games left in 2026 the Cubs might end the night 2 games ahead in the loss column over the DBacks and Padres for WC 2/3. They will own the tiebreaker over both teams Still in a better position (and yes the DBacks are currently trailing the Royals 2-1) but it’s getting frighteningly similar
  9. Cubs might go 2-5 against Milwaukee but if they can score a couple runs they will win the RD battle over those 7 games
  10. Correction: the Padres will be 2 back and both will be 2 behind in the loss column
  11. Cubs were 99.8% to make the playoffs on Saturday. Since then Cubs 0-4 Padres 4-0 Diamondbacks 3-0 (playing now) interested to see where they end up after tonight
  12. Well hey outside of the 2 sweeps it was 4-3 Cubs
  13. If the Cubs miss the playoffs I propose a clean sweep in the offseason. Won’t happen but there needs to be a reset after 2 improbable September playoff collapses in a 4 season span
  14. Not gonna watch after last nights horsefeathers but one thing to look forward to: PCA is currently at 9.9 fWAR for the season. Can get above 10 tonight
  15. Who could have ever foreseen him having issues with judgement?
  16. Cubs playoff odds on Fangraphs have dropped from 99.8% on Saturday to 97.9% this morning lol
  17. 5-4 Padres now. Looking like the standings will be Phillies -- Cubs 0.5 Diamondbacks 3.5 ------------- Padres 3.5 Edit: I'm being told the DBacks and Padres are actually 3.5 games behind the Cubs, but whatever, 3 behind in the loss column
  18. And the Padres have tied it. Looking like a worst case scenario night with the Cubs losing and the Phillies, Diamondbacks and Padres winning.
  19. Bases loaded 0 outs after yet another walk. Cubs might be down to a 3 (4) game lead due to another bullpen collapse
  20. And of course the Padres have 2 on and 0 outs after some dude who has 3 MLB innings in his career walks the first 2 hitters. Now the top of their order is up.
  21. 4-1 in the 8th now. I don’t see Webb or Palencia warming up at least
