    I'm so confused at why Kyle Tucker is so hated by Cubs fans and was booed so loudly yesterday. I get that he gave off a vibe of not being passionate about the Cubs/baseball in general and that he struggled down the stretch, but that doesn't cross my threshold for booing. There's a quote from Tucker about the booing on social media saying he tried his hardest, etc. and all the replies are torching him and calling him a crybaby. I know social media is not the best place to get a true rational gauge on fan feelings but that plus the loud booing makes me feel like I'm missing some detail as to why he's so hated. I wasn't a big fan of booing Contreras either, but that one I could understand with the comments he made after joining the Cardinals. This one is a head scratcher.

    Either there was something close enough to leak out and one of the teams backed out last second, or the notoriously guarded and close lipped Cubs FO were doing a mole hunt to see who was leaking info.

    I wonder if Jed senses weakness with the Brewers. Otherwise you are looking at a 3 game WC series (hosted a Wrigley which I think is a benefit), and potentially the Dodgers or Brewers in the NLDS. I dunno, its a gamble but I'm not going to complain because I would have complained more if he didn't make these moves lol

    I didn't know we were evaluating the trades. I thought you were asking for when the last time they made an impactful trade was, meaning it was a big name top tier acquisitions. Honestly they did fine on the sell off trades. If you trade a half season of Rizzo, Javy and KB and get someone on (an early) track to be an inner circle HOFer you are doing pretty damn well IMO. Caissie netted us Cabrera who has been a disappointment but he proved to be pretty strong capital for that trade. Alcantara is as of this moment still on the roster and has upside even if hes probably not going to realize it here. It's always going to be a bit of a crapshoot when trading away a half season of a guy imo.

    The thing about the playoffs is that they are now played completely different than the regular season. Yes you'd absolutely like 3 shutdown starters, but the Cubs cobbled together a bunch of worn down mid pitchers last year and managed to be within 1 run of the Brewers for a trip to the NLCS in the 8th inning. That game was started by Drew Pomeranz and the only thing close to a starter that pitched in that game was the 2.2 IP that Rea gave us. Not saying you can survive for 4 rounds with that method but if healthy (HUGE IF of course), I like the guys the Cubs have lined up better than last year. And if we can have Brown or Steele available to give us 2-3 IP that bodes even better for us.

    Quintana the next year for one. There was that year we got that PCA fellow (I know you're talking about buyer trades). I think Gausman is pretty impactful...not quite in the Chapman tier but he's pretty damn good and exactly what we needed for this season.

    Yeah I agree, even though he participated on OTAs and the first week or so of camp this will set him back a bit. Even if Week 2 is an optimistic return date, its very possible the Bears put him on IR to open up an extra roster spot to start the year, not wanting to rely on the most optimistic time table. And then yeah even playing he's probably not going to be playing 100% of the snaps and will be behind on getting up to speed and building chemistry with the team. It's not the worst case scenario though, just have to hope the offense can play well out of the gate and bank a couple wins. First 4 weeks: @ CAR vs MIN vs PHI vs NYJ

    Scared to see the return but like the pick up. Will be interesting to see the rotation if the best case scenario for returning pitchers happens: Boyd Imanaga Detmers Gausman Brown Cabrera Peterson Rea Absolutely first world problems to have and given our injuries this year unlikely that it actually happens that perfectly, but still, will be interesting. Guessing Peterson and Rea to the pen at a minimum. Then maybe a 5.5 man rotation (5 man rotation with a 6th started added in there on occasion depending on schedule, with that person working LR outings in between). And then there's next season. Looking at something like Steele, Brown, Cabrera, Detmers and a FA? Maybe Gausman has a Cole Hamels like run in Chicago and signs up for another season.

    Sounds like Terrell Smith went down injured today too. Not sure the severity, but this is feeling a lot like last year. Kyler, Terrell Smith, Brisker's replacement...

    Also, Gausman's xFIP is better than anyone on the Cubs that's made a start this year except Ben Brown and Riley Martin who was an opener.

    4.1 fWAR last year, 22.7 combined the last 5 seasons. Obviously a bit of a down year this year with regards to results but his FIP and xFIP are right in the same range as previous years and he's at 2.6 fWAR (I know pitching WAR is meh, just easy to quickly review) so there's probably some bad luck involved. I think this is a great move.

    Here’s another situation where I don’t get not challenging. It was a strike yes but it was at least close and the game is over if you dont challenge. Why not at least tap your helmet?

    Ian’s gonna have to have a mighty hot streak at some point to get to his usual numbers. Not idea in a contract year for him.
