  1. On a consecutive game basis the offense this season is averaging +\- 3.4 runs/game in any 2 game splits at the 34 game mark. Last season they were +\-5 run average during the 34 game mark. Much less volatile even after adjusting for the difference in runs scored.
  2. I wish he’d keep the Whitesox and sell the Bulls instead.
  3. The Cubs traded Cassie with 2 aging corner outfielders in favor of Moses who doesn’t even have a position and it’s looking more and more obvious why.
  4. I get chills when I hear his signature “BUH BYE” home run call. He’s the best.
  5. Cubs haven’t swept the diamondbacks since 2015, the longest they’ve gone without a sweep against any national league team.
  6. The run defense between the numbers is my biggest worry. I think they brought in enough speed with better man coverage to to execute some of those exotic blitzes against better offenses, which will help with the pass rush. None of this is ideal but if the offense does their part hopefully mediocre is sufficient.
  7. The defense was by no means a good unit but the first half of the season they were down to their 4th and 5th string cornerbacks and linebackers. Thanks to injuries McCarthy had the 4th quarter of life, Jeanty had his best game as a pro, they couldn’t stop Tyler Huntley and were gashed by a mediocre giants offense. The team we watched from week 10-18 that was 7th in DVOA is a more accurate representation of what this team as close to perfect health. Also thanks to familiarity in the offense and Loveland and Burden taking more snaps.
  8. Only the Pirates worry me and the Brewers are always a pain in the ass.
  9. Ben Brown finally looks like a major league pitcher. Forget about just his sinker but he painted the corner a couple times with his change up and is throwing all 4 pitches for strikes. Credit to Counsell for waving the white flag in enough games to keep the bullpen arms fresh too. No reason to try and finish 162-0. He did the right thing making Assad eat up innings in blowout losses to the Phillies and Dodgers. Last but not least, DFA Happ.
