The reports on Snider seem to suggest that he's being called to the big leagues in case the Lawrie situation doesn't improve.

What's with the Buckel intrigue? Is it more picking Buckel as a nice 2nd piece, or are people really that intrigued by Buckel? I just don't see that much to be excited about, but perhaps the logic is that, with Olt as the top piece, the chances of getting a different arm isn't as high?

He's certainly performed well thus far and he was a 2nd rounder. I really know nothing about his scouting report. But his numbers are pretty strong.

He's young. Just turned 20 a month ago and already in AA. Words like pitchability and strong character guy have been used to describe him. Great control while missing bats. 2.9 BB/9 and 10.6 K/9 with a WHIP of 1.08 in a little over 200 minor league innings. He owned the Sally League as a 18/19 year old and dominated the Carolina League as a 19/20 year old before being bumped to AA where he is holding his own.

He's likely not a future TOR guy, but when paired with Olt and maybe another decent arm, it looks good on paper.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the trade market for Zack Greinke may be softening.

It appears that the Brewers pushing Greinke's next start back has raised some eyebrows within the industry. One executive told Rosenthal that they were "very" concerned about the recent developments with the pitcher, while another said, "he scares me, period." Rosenthal writes that teams "do not consider Greinke entirely trustworthy, in part due to his past struggles with social anxiety disorder." This is certainly noteworthy but could all be a moot point if Greinke returns next week and dominates for two starts leading up to the trade deadline. And, while some teams may be scared off by him, it only takes one that isn't and is willing to offer a package of prospects for him.

Certainly has to help Garza's market

who is in the red sox rotation right now?

Not 100% sure, but this is the current depth chart on Rotoworld:

1. Jon Lester

2. Josh Beckett

3. Clay Buchholz

4. Felix Doubront

5. Franklin Morales

6. Aaron Cook

I hate that Toronto probably eliminated themselves on this front. I guess we're looking at Detroit, Boston, and hopefully Texas and Atlanta as the main groups in on him.

meh, the guys they gave up aren't the guys they would have to give up to get garza. their system is plenty deep and they have enough quality to get garza if they want him. their rotation is still not very good - happ is a marginal back-end guy. if that was all they wanted (an upgrade to j.a. happ) then there's nothing the cubs could really do about it.

Could be wrong, but I think Truffle was referring to the Jays' recent swoon taking them out of the Buyers category and not their 10-player trade with Houston.

Detroit would need to give up Castellanos in order to get Garza, something I get the feeling they aren't willing to do. They've already moved him to RF in AA, preparing him for a callup this season. There is no way in hell Turner can be the biggest piece at this time. They also have that hard throwing reliever, but there just isn't a lot in that system that interests me. I hope their old owner gets in DD's ear and forces a Castellanos, Turner, + for Garza and Barney deal.

Assuming Teheran isn't broken, I wouldn't mind dealing with the Braves. Also, the Rangers have more starting pitchers coming back from injury soon that I thought, so I'm not sure how desperate they are. I do really like Perez though.

He doesn't have a great fastball and gets by more on pitchability. I don't recall, off the top, any reports claiming a plus secondary pitch, but maybe I'm forgetting something. It's more like ... above average across the board, with a deep arsenal.

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike Buckel, and can understand the logic of him as the 2nd piece to Olt. He might have a higher floor than some of the other Rangers arms, but there's at least 1, if not 2 guys, I would rather gamble on, if given the option.

I look at it as them "appearing to buy". I don't think that with their injuries, they wanted to make a real move. I guess if they get hot over the next week and a half, things could change, but they dealt from their depth, without hurting anything. I bet they're quiet from here on out.

Any chance that we could get a package starting with 1 of Parker/Gray/Cole/Milone and 1 of Peacock/Griffin/Ross for a package starting with Garza and Barney, and throw in Baker? (take a look at the slash lines of every infielder they've tried this year aside from Chris Carter before laughing too hard). Soto could also be involved.

We get em on the phone and then just trick them into just baker. I think. :banghead:

PAGING ANGRY BUKIE

It's my son's 5th birthday, and frankly, I'm more interested in hearing his thoughts on Dempster and Garza trade possibilities.

My 4 yr old probably has a couple ideas she could throw in if you're interested!

My four year old would trade the farm for Moustakas. Loves saying his name.
