Garza for Olt straight-up is one of those rare trades where I'm fairly sure both sides would say no.

That's probably true. Although I wonder what the new front office really thinks of Garza.

Olt is an excellent prospect, but he's being overrated here a little bit. I'd be pretty surprised if the Rangers would turn down Garza for Olt straight up. I mean he's a soon-to-be 24 year-old in AA, plus the Rangers tried really hard to get Garza when he was a Ray.

I surely hope Theo wouldn't accept Olt for Garza straight up. As the centerpiece? Sure, but I'd also want Buckel and other arms.

Yeah, Texas wouldn't turn down a one for one of Olt for Garza. As for Turner? I'd still trade Demp straight up for him, but no way to him being the lead piece for Garza.

I'm very curious about Zach Britton's start tonight. Chris Tillman's start yesterday was awful, but ... there were some positives in his first two starts so far. Fastball velocity is back, in a major way, and the changeup for Tillman looked good at times (but fastball location was the big issue yesterday, along with Mark Reynolds error).

I still have doubts the Orioles would put those two in a package together, but if they did, I'd listen. It's about the only non-Bundy/Machado package from the Orioles that could get my attention.

As a random side note, I still think LaHair could fit there. Mark Reynolds is awful defensively at first.

Turner is getting absolutely corn holed right now by the Angels.

He may not make it out of the 2nd. He's given up 3 HRs already (Pujols, Trout, Trumbo).

After Turner's rough year, how do people feel about him? There has been talk about a loss of velocity and he has sketchy numbers between both the minors and majors so far.

I understand the projection and potential. But, honestly, I've never been a Turner fan. I'm not saying I'm right. I am probably wrong. I don't have a lot of experience, and I'm basing this off of seeing him a few times 2 years ago. But, I've never thought of him as more of a 4/5 as his endgame.

I was only lukewarm on him before this season, I just don't get the hype to be honest. I mean with Teheran I can at least see that the stuff is there, though the results aren't overwhelming this year.

Garza for Olt/Buckel would make me pretty happy. Getting Loux in that deal would make me ecstatic.

Are you saying Olt or Buckel or Olt & Buckel? If it's both of them, then yeah, I'd be pretty happy with that, too.

Besides the possible package the Blue Jays could put together, and it's increasingly doubtful that they will be buyers this going around, that's the most intriguing haul I can imagine for Garza.

Olt, Buckel and possibly one of Loux or Grimm with maybe a short season guy like Abel De La Santos as the cherry on top. If the Cubs have to sweeten the pot with a prospect coming back, I'm good. Question is, how motivated are the Rangers to get this done?

If you want a lottery pick out of the Rangers' system, take a look at:

Rougned Odor SS/DH – Age 18 – The 5’11″ Venezuelan jumped onto everyone’s radar last season with his feisty play in the NWL. Having Andrus, Profar, Alberto, and Odor at the same position in the same organization is just wrong. Odor his hitting .297 with 8 HRs, 3 Triples, 19 Doubles, 35 RBI, 45 Runs, and 12 SB to go with a 40/16 K/BB ratio over 266 at bats on the season. His .184 ISoP for a 170 pound 18 year old kid in the SALLY is pretty remarkable and suggests there may be more power yet to come (from baseballinstinct.com)

Roman Mendez SP 06/25/90 H:6’2” W:180. Acquired by way of a trade from the Boston Red Sox, Roman Mendez makes the Texas minor league system even more pitching-rich. Mendez is a hard-throwing Dominican that has been brought along in a deliberate manner, not skipping through levels very quickly. He rewarded that patience with a 9-1 win-loss record and a 3.31 era last season in the Sally league during the 2011 season. His arsenal consists of a mid-90’s fastball, a slider that shows plus potential and a developing changeup. That “stuff” was good enough for a sparkly k/bb ratio of 130/45 in 117 innings pitched. After playing for 4 seasons, the last of which was single A ball, it seems that Mendez needs to be challenged a bit. (from baseballinstinct.com) - I acquired for Salty

Rangers would be the ideal trading partner, because they have a lot of solid prospects blocked by long-term contracts at the majors. I think you could get Olt and Buckel and maybe throw in a Miguel De los Santos.

Odor's not really a lottery ticket though, he's easily in their top 10 prospects, probably top 5 at this point with a shot at top 100 at the end of the year. Mendez is also one of their top 10s at this point too.

See how much I know about the minor leagues...

Agree with raw on Oder. He's a borderline top 100 prospect now.

What would everyone want from Red Sox for Garza? Barnes would have to be in there, I assume.

It also sounds like the Phils are making a legitimate last minute push to retain Hamels. It would be phenomenal for the Cubs if that happened.

Jackie Bradley Jr and Barnes for me.

I don't think they've said he's unavailable, at least I haven't read that anywhere. For me, the optimal package from them would be Barnes/Cecchini/Owens. Might be asking too much though.

Hopefully good news for us. The Red Sox definitely should be buyers at the deadline given the players coming back from injury and their current run differential.

I'll put this here, since the Jays are supposedly in on him, but Travis Snider was pulled tonight in AAA. Doubt it's anything to do with Garza, but who the hell knows?

Who knows, anything is possible at this point.
