PAGING ANGRY BUKIE

It's my son's 5th birthday, and frankly, I'm more interested in hearing his thoughts on Dempster and Garza trade possibilities.

My 4 yr old probably has a couple ideas she could throw in if you're interested!

My four year old would trade the farm for Moustakas. Loves saying his name.

Ha! Funny what they get fixated on. We were watching the British Open today and I think she's said Brant Snedeker about 400 times since this morning.

Also, I hope he just got traded and not injured.

If JeffH is only sort of freaking out about it, I feel pretty good right now.

He just seems so relaxed because of the bottle of bourbon he used to down the pills.

"cramping in his right tricep" is what len just said

is that good?

I'm no expert, but I have to think so.

Are they still going to do an MRI? If not, I'm satisfied. If they are, then I'd be worried that it's one of those placeholder diagnoses that gets worse as the week goes on.

And now this...

The Dodgers don't want to surrender prospects for a rental and are "very unlikely" to acquire Ryan Dempster, but Bruce Levine of ESPN Chicago reports that they have shifted their focus to Matt Garza. Los Angeles had a deal on the table to acquire Dempster yesterday but it was not consummated.

Garza, 28, left tonight's game after three scoreless starts due to an apparent injury. Multiple reports indicate that it may be a wrist or forearm issue. He fell covering first base earlier in the game. Garza has pitched to a 4.02 ERA in 17 starts this year and unlike Dempster, he is under team control as an arbitration-eligible player next season.

The triceps seem like an odd place to cramp up for a pitcher.

A Garza injury would conceivably force some teams, Dodgers included, back onto Dempster. That said, Garza has less than 10 days to come back and make a solid start, or else we're stuck until the offseason.Would be shocked if Dempster made another start at this point for us.

I can think of worse things than to be stuck with Matt Garza. And if he is out for any period of time, I'm even more glad Theo held out for Zach Lee, because there's a good chance we get him or someone of that quality (i.e. Teheran from Atlanta) for Dempster.

Stuck wasn't the right word really. But his value to other teams would conceivably go down somewhat. Of course, it's possible we could extend him anyway.

Yeah, I knew what you meant. Just pointing out that I'm still not sold that dealing Garza is the best move.

I guess nobody knows what the GMs involved are actually thinking, but that seems awfully optimistic.

It may be a bit optimistic, but it's at least not blind optimism with Theo doing the negotiating for us. And at this point, Dempster is probably far and away the best SP on the market (assuming Garza is out too long to be traded, Hamels really is extended, and teams have shied away from Greinke due to injury). That means if a GM like Ned Colletti gets desperate, the desperation move is made for Dempster.

Epstein is a really good talent evaluator, but he is not some kind of magical jedi knight talks other teams into giving up assets they don't want to give up.

Epstein's track record gives me faith that whatever prospects he picks out have a better chance than normal of succeeding.

Or perhaps that was Theo's plan all along. The Boy Genious strikes!

Theo: OK Matt, we're going to pull you in the third, and when you get to the dugout, as soon as you see the camera pointed in your direction, start to flex your wrist in an exaggerated manner."

Garza's next scheduled start is Friday, off day on Thursday, also against the Cards. His last chance to start again before the deadline is next Monday night against the Pirates.

The Marshall/Torreyes trade makes me wonder about the jedi mind tricks thing.....

In seriousness, if there's a game of chicken going on over Zach Lee, I feel better about Colletti flinching before Theo. That's my main point. Theo is patient enough to wait out Colletti and see if he gets nervous as the deadline approaches.
