I doubt that Greinke wants to come to us. He left KC because he wanted no part of being in a rebuilding process and they had better prospects on the way than we do right now.

I think Greinke ends up with a city like Atlanta, Baltimore, St. Louis, Milwaukee, etc. and avoids the big-city stress of NY, Chicago, & LA .

St Louis is a good fit for him. Man I hope he doesn't think so.

Seriously are Greinke's anxiety issues still a concern? The last time there was ever an issue with his social anxiety was what... 2006? 2007? It's been nearly 5 years, I think he's learned to control it at this point.

"Just take that bartending job. Your alcoholism hasn't been a problem for like 4-5 years. I'm sure you've learned to control it at this point."

Maybe he could control it but that still doesn't mean he wants to completely immerse himself in that situation just like I'm sure most recovering alcoholics dont want to be around people drinking and enjoying alcohol all day. Ok social anxiety is not at all similar to alcoholism but still.

Yeah, while I don't want to pretend that I know it's still a problem for him, I don't really want to say it's definitely not a problem either. I don't think it's all that far-fetched to think he plays it safe and avoids the major media markets.

Did you happen to get a chance to watch him in the postseason last year? The dude had the old dear in the headlights look. Social anxiety doesn't just go away. There is nothing wrong with having it, and nothing wrong with trying to control it. Pitching in a major market for sure would not be good for that problem. I think he realizes that.

Chicago and New York are for sure out for me. L.A. is a major market, but it seems pretty laid back.

When you're going to make that much money, you might as well play it safe if there are any issues. He seems like the kind of guy who would leave money on the table to play in a place where he's comfortable.

i like how we're acting like nobody was watching him in kc and milwaukee

I hear what you're saying, but the scrutiny on players - especially highly paid, "star" players - is vastly different in Milwaukee or KC as compared to Chicago or New York.

none of us having any idea what his issues are, if he even has any. speculating that he might not play in a big market because of something we know nothing about is stupid.

It's not just guesses that Greinke has anxiety issues, it's fact and there's been plenty written and spoken about it. It's a fair point to be skeptical that things would somehow be worse or untenable in a larger market, but let's not pretend that this is some trumped up misinterpretation of body language or something.

i know he's had issues, i just think it's funny that people in here are diagnosing him like they can read him, because he had a "deer in the headlights look" in a playoff game and stuff like that.

Playoff game(s).

Zack Greinke has significant anxiety issues. It's well documented. So far in his Major League career, he has only pitched in laid back, small markets. Until he is willing to go to a big market - Boston and New York are both part of the 15 teams he can block trades to - I will continue to believe he realizes he might not best be suited for those markets.

If he goes to a big market and thrives, consider me wrong.

I have no idea why dexter would even argue about this. It's well documented. He went on the 60 day DL to work out psych issues in the past & abruptly left a training camp for something like two months for the same reason. He has stated multiple times in the past he is surprised he decided to come back to play baseball.

Even when KC put him on the trade market - they communicated with Grienke and made sure he went to a smaller market.

Hammel's out a month. Be nice if Baltimore went into panic mode. Santos is out for the year for Toronto, they need bullpen help now too.

if greinke wants to avoid the spotlight, he'll do well to take part in the cubs' 10-year rebuilding project. WIN FEW GAMES EARLY OR LATE FOR SOME GUY BORN IN 1998.

seriously though, i thought that one posnanski article taught everyone that greinke's issues were way more complicated and interesting than "ack scary crowds."

Awesome article.

From Rosenthal...

The Cubs wanted a Gio Gonzalez-like return for Matt Garza last offseason, Rosenthal reports.

The Nats gave up 3 top 10 prospects, and also Tommy Milone who slotted right in the A's rotation and is having a decent year.

The price may be a little less than that now, but I'd still expect 2 top 10s, and 1 in the 10-20 range, unless a team gives up an absolute stud (i.e. top 50 in all of baseball) and are loaded to the point their 10-15 guys are still really good....then I'd still want 2 of them.

Peacock (36), Cole (57), and Norris (72) were all top 100 guys too.

2 "top 10 guys" really isn't much of a return.

Yeah, but if one of those top 10 guys is Jacob Turner or Mike Olt or Carlos Martinez, and you thrown in another guy in those top 10s along with another projectable player in the lower minors...that's a pretty good package for 1 1/2 years of Garza. Gio was still under control for 3 more years, I believe.
