That's how it is pretty much everywhere. I don't get how people can be that way, but it is true of most places. Living in the southwest, I have found that to be less the case here than in the Midwest, where people tend to "put down roots" fairly early in life.

Chicago certainly has its share of serious issues, there's absolutely no denying that. But while its lows are low, its highs are really high. St. Louis, on the other hand, registers on a spectrum from "meh, maybe okay" to "festering sharthole". There simply aren't enough positives to make the city redeemable. It's not mentioned in the same breath as places like Detroit without just cause.

If our frontcourt wasn't dead, we might have won some games this year. Agreed ... I actually think we'd be pretty damn good healthy! Yeah, I thnk we'd have been a dangerous team for sure. Hill/Nunn are quite good. But with our best post players done for the year, it's going to be a tough slog.

Yeah, it's a decent contract. The Cards rotation is a big bag of injury risk, so signing a pitcher who is a good bet to give them ~200 IP was sort of a necessary move. It isn't sexy, and Leake doesn't really have any ceiling left, but it's stability.

Before this, I would have ruled out the Cardinals trading for Votto because they didn't have enough to acquire him without hurting the major league roster. But now, I'm not so sure. But I don't see Mozeliak going that route. As great as Votto is, that decline can come quickly, and he is 32. As for Frazier, I don't think he is great, but two years of him has to be worth more that what the Reds got. Going from GABP to the Cell is almost a later move, so maintaining his numbers should be expected.

I don't think it'll be Davis, the cost is high, and his performance has been volatile. I think it'll be Alex Gordon. He has Cardinal written all over him. As for power, I think they're banking on a healthy Adams and Holliday, as well as a potential rebound from Gyorko. Plus Carpenter ad a breakout power season last year. I think Alex Gordon and a farewell season from Mark Buehrle would be a likely scenario.

I have to think that a lot of this is just posturing on Mozeliak's part. There's no doubt that the phone started ringing off of the hook after they lost out on Price, and even more after Heyward. They've talked about their new resources, and agents are no doubt eager to get in on it now, hoping the Cards will act out of desperation. I have a hard time imagining that they won't sign at least one of the remaining upper tier FAs. If they don't, that's fine by me; that would be a huge gamble.

after the last trade that stewart made, i have no doubt that his phone has been ringing red hot from teams asking what it would take to pry away bradley. I remember back in high school there was a vending machine in the cafeteria that one day, inexplicably, started dispensing five or six sodas at a time instead of one. Word got out, and there was a rush on the thing until it was empty. That's probably something like what is going on with Stewart right now.

Definitely Atlanta, though the Phillies got quite a nice haul for Giles. And unlike Philly, Atlanta didn't wait 2-3 years too long to start.
