  1. He pitched a shut out today, and his numbers look pretty good. I'd love to have Price too, but guessing the price, pun intended, ends up north of 200.
  2. Am I in the Bleacher Nation comments? I don't get it. The odd sentencing or do you think it's a horrible offer?(I don't read comments there) No need to add Johnson/Edwards in there. Heck Voggy in it might be too much. I honestly don't see much difference between Valbuena/Zobrist except Zobrist can play OF, but Cubs have Valbuena for 2 more years and he's 4 years younger. You're kidding, right? I like Valbuena too....but Zobrist has been a much better player.
  3. LOL. Yeah, I was kinda thinking the same thing.
  4. Great timing. I was planning on going to Arizona that weekend to see them play. Better change that up.
  5. Doesn't surprise me at all. You see average pitchers now getting around $15M per year. The TV $$ leads to crazy contracts.
  6. If they did land Tanaka....would you guys want to extend Shark, or look to move him for younger arms, like Toronto?? Probably keep him at least for this year and see how it goes. Yeah. I can't see getting a discount early so I change my answer. Let the next year or two play out, see what he is, and then decide. Yeah, that would make the most sense. Unless Toronto decided to all of a sudden offer up both Sanchez and Stroman, or some other crazy deal popped up.

  8. These are the only 2 things that make sense...maybe ownership change too.
  9. Not gonna happen. If the Cubs don't receive good enough offers for him, I can see it happening. I don't see them just letting him walk...and I doubt they take a return that they don't see as a good haul.
  10. And then he gets caught stealing. In the 8th inning when we're down 4. So yeah. Yep. That was lovely. Gets picked off when they are down 4 runs??!! His decision making is absolutely brutal.
  11. I started watching them in the 70's as a kid. So what have been the shining moments? 1984, 1989, 2003, all major disappointments...along with a bunch of horrible years. Being a Cubs fan is not easy. Also became a fan in the 70's. Dave Kingman, Manny Trillo, Bill Buckner, Rick Reuschel, Bruce Sutter and Ivan DeJesus along with HEY HEY from Brickhouse sucked me into being a cub fan. My first trip to Wrigley(from Iowa) the Cubs scored 1 run in 27 innings in a 3 game series with Dave Winfield led Padres in those god awful uniforms. Some of the low points for me at least were the meltdown in 84, earth quake series San Fran 98, and of course the 2003 implosion. I saw them play the Pad's too in the 77, wanna say it was my 2nd game, but it was a much better result than what you saw...Cubs won 23-6??!! Ivan DeJesus, Larry Biittner, Steve Ontiveros, and Bobby Murcer all went crazy that game.
  12. You are a very dull human if you think it is fun to watch the process that has been going on here. Agreed. My buddy is a Giants fan, and we were discussing how the Giants have "tortured" their fans the past few years with all their close games. You want torture?? Try being a Cubs fan for over 30 years, then get back to me. I can think of a lot worse teams to be a fan of than the Cubs over the last 30 years. I started watching them in the 70's as a kid. 13. I think that seriously underestimates the price to keep Garza. He's not going to come back on a reasonable deal. He's going to hit a money-rich, talent-poor FA market as the best pitcher available and get something stupid. Then you can pat yourself on the back with the No. 35 overall pick or whatever that might slot into the back of our top 10, instead of getting a top 100 prospect + a guy as good as the No. 35 pick. Then sign him. If you can't get an impactful return in trade there is no point in trading him. Incremental improvement does nothing for this team. I've said the same thing since the Garza trade talk started last season. If you don't get a great return, look to extend him. Shark-Garza-Jackson-Wood-whoever is not a bad rotation. Especially if Jackson can return to form. Maybe I just like Garza more than most on here.

  15. We crossed the line for me the last two days. Same here. This is the best I've felt about the prospects the Cubs have in forever. As for the ML club, just wanna see guys like Castro, Rizzo, and Shark continue to get better.
  16. The sad thing is I can say the same about a good portion of this roster....they just aren't very good.
  17. First rehab start on Friday. Thank you.
  18. I get that. It's not like Hairston is killing it either. Guys, all I'm saying is it would hurt absolutely nothing to let him play vs a lefty or 2. I just wanna see if we have a guy that could maybe play every day down the road. I get that, but this far into his career it's unlikely he's a diamond in the rough. You want to try and get the other guys going so they can contribute, and sitting them isn't going to help that. Probably so, but I'd just like to see them take a chance. Like I said, it can't hurt anything. This team doesn't look like it's gonna be any better than last year, so I'm fine with rolling the dice a little. Well, even if it's a bust of a year you want to get guys like Hairston going so you can ideally trade them. Schierholtz will have plenty of value if he can continue to be serviceable in his half of the platoon. True, that definitely makes sense. It certainly looks like it'll be another year of trying to trade 75% of them at the deadline. Speaking of which, I have heard nothing about Garza??

  21. A game or 2 of him trying to hit a LHP would not hurt. I live in the Bay Area, but don't follow the Giants too much. I know some fans that said Nate never really got a chance to show he could play every day. Think he had a couple of injuries along the way. Sappelt blows. Sorry, I just don't see him being an even average player.
  22. Gotta keep that lefty vs righty match up that so many people just love!!! Sappelt is garbage. I've seen enough of him. I don't care if he hits RH, LH, or with his feet. Platooning is a good idea. Platooning with Sappelt is not. LOL. Agreed!! Platoon is good if you have 2 capable players doing it. The point I was making the other day w Nate is that he is so hot, why not play him vs some lefties. This team is going nowhere, wouldn't hurt at all.
