  1. Was at this game. Newcomb had nice vertical and lateral movement on all his pitches, and hit 98 multiple times on the fastball. I was in RF, so I couldn’t identify which pitch was which (though I have my guesses), but he sat at 79-81 and 84-86 for the off speed pitches he threw. Not that he’s a prospect at all, but Hicks’ home run was into a slight breeze, and barely landed inside the LF concourse at Victory Field. As an aside, if he makes the majors on a consistent basis, Crook is going to be adored by the bleachers. All game long he interacted with the few Iowa fans in the area, and danced to all the stadium music.
  2. Is Johnny Knoxville still on the roster?
  3. Per BA: Zach Cates and Trey McNutt released.
  4. Currently, only the NL Central has no team, .500 or over, with a losing record at home or on the road. Very random.
  5. That lineup (minus Baez) is striking fear in no one at present I'm afraid everyone they send them out, we'll score less than 2 runs.
  6. Anyone up for a game of Boggle™? I did that on purpose, but if you haven't been here forever you probably missed the reference. I know the reference. (Checks join dates). It's just not a funny joke. They can't all be winners.
  7. If young and controllable is the shortstop requirement for SD, wouldn't Castro (plus Torres) make sense to Boston, if they then sent Bogaerts to SD? Lots of other pieces needed, obviously
  8. He's no Matt Kemp, that's for sure No. Because he's a pitcher. Kemp's a power forward. Wait, wrong Kemp. He's an Outfielder. Barely. Barely more of a passable MLB outfielder than I am.
  9. I know, that's what I was implying but I don't think people caught on. If you look at ARCubsfan's profile it says he's 23. Smoking gun evidence! Edit: Ok the real smoking gun is that the twitter user is just as irrationally negative during games as the NSBB poster And that user's been quoted here before... viewtopic.php?f=2&t=63160&start=275#p3108057 Edit: Add the smoking gun: viewtopic.php?t=64086&start=300#p3230379
  10. That's what I thought. It looked kinda like it changed direction after the bounce. It's hard to tell though.

If it is, it's certainly one of the tamer personal attacks on this site.
  12. He joined this year and has started approximately 839 threads with people saying the same thing for the last 676. 1. He isn't going anywhere because of that. 2. If he does, he does. Same for you or anyone. It's a [expletive] message board. If people post stupid things you can make fun of their post. The goal isn't to rack up as many people as possible here. If you want to go somewhere with the most members, go for it. 3. The forum isn't going to die because cracked out threads that are started everyday earn a sarcastic comment. 1) No, he's probably not going anywhere. Not sure if the account is elaborate troll, or the user perceives the actual, intended abuse, as good-natured ribbing. 2) If Tim's using ad revenue to at least cover server/bandwidth costs, to an extent the goal is to rack up a certain number of people. I'm certain that Tim would love it, if this was a moneymaking endeavor as well. Offensive people, both agitators and trolls, will serve to drive the userbase, both registered and unregistered, away. It's not just registered users who see ads. 3) It is true that the forum won't die from cracked out threads getting sarcastic comments, but a forum that is perceived as highly unwelcoming to newcomers, will eventually die out.
  13. Rotoworld is calling this signed to a minor league contract, so I'm guessing he was released. Edit: Rotoworld says he opted out, if I bothered to read.
  14. In the user control panel, Manage "Remember Me" login keys, I found a "bug." If I scroll down to the bottom of the list, and select Mark all, then deselect the most recent, and click "Delete marked" the system acts like it's deleting the keys, but actually doesn't delete anything. Is it just me? Edit: If I select them one at a time, it functions normally.
  15. It's somehow based on fantasy rankings/drafts position for veteran players only, and projects future performance. How offensive linemen play into that, I'm not sure. But, honestly, the only problem I have with it, is the exclusion of Matt Forte. I can see arguments for leaving Bennett and Jeffery off. And lack of OG (aside from Yonda) on the list, can explain Long's absence. And aside from that, we do have a lot of question marks.
  16. Have we taken talent from the Brewers? Looking back at the trade history, I'd say no. http://www.baseball-reference.com/friv/trade-partners.cgi?franch_ID_1=CHC&franch_ID_2=MIL
  17. It is actually pretty easy to enjoy a game with an infant in tow. A 2 year old is another story. My 2 year old loves baseball. He got mad when we left the last game in the 8th inning. He sits there, intently watching. Claps appropriately, sulks appropriately. It's quite amusing.
  18. I'm not sure that a Memphis team would do that well. There would have to be a significant investment in Memphis by the ownership to make the park a draw. The trend in baseball is for less suburban ballparks, and more ingrained in a cities downtown. I highly doubt you're going to get people from all over to travel to Memphis, proper, to go to a game. The city has done little successfully to cut back on it's crime problems. And if those people from a few hours away won't go, they likely won't change their allegiance from the current team. Traffic is bad enough in Midtown, without a sports draw. There's nowhere near enough additional revenue available from increasing taxes to make that happen. I'd advocate the only way you'd draw from all over is to put the team in one of the North Mississippi suburbs, but then you lose the biggest advantage Memphis has- no state income tax. I have to agree with most of this having spent a decent amount of time in Memphis and having gone to the Redbirds park several times. The downtown area is minutes from some pretty awful neighborhoods and there would have to be a major revamping of downtown access to handle the traffic that would result from an MLB game crowd. On top of that, I think you'd be hard pressed to get fans who have been Cardinals fans for several generations to switch allegiances, which I honestly think would be the biggest hurdle. The reason the Redbirds draw as well as they do has a whole lot to do with the fanbase wanting to see guys they're going to see playing for their favorite MLB team soon. There's a good spilt here between Cardinals and Braves fans, as well as quite a few transplants from the Pittsburgh area, as Memphis used to have a strong steel industry. The local news tends to cover the Cardinals more, but in terms of apparel, it's pretty well divided.

  20. I use mostly the web interface. But my LTE coverage here is so spotty, and at times when I'm not getting LTE, I certainly prefer Tapatalk. It makes the site faster to load. So I can read, lurk, and logoff quicker. #FirstWorldProblems
  21. It also doesn't (didn't?) obey the friends/foes list. It shows you that "Tim" has posted "The quotes thing and it annoys me that it doesn't obey the censors." and is on your foes list.
  22. Has Rademacher gained arm strength, is his mention a comment on the lack of arm strength left, or have I only seen him (in the past) on bad days? I'm guessing it's a combo of what's left in the farm ans you seeing him on a bad day. He could throw a mid-90s FB in junior college and carried that over to the outfield. His arm is generally considered one of his best qualities. It's not as good as Soler or Lake's but they weren't included in this list since players on the 40 man didn't count. When I saw him in low A, nothing stood out to me, compared to the rest of his fellow low A corner outfielders (Chen, Golden, Encarnacion, Zapata). It's a small sample, for sure, hence why I questioned myself.
