What if Javy started the first inning instead of Taillon?

Javy sucks with Amaya.  His ERA with Miggy is 7.61, with Carson, 1.91, not including tonight.

Alex Cohen, calling someone 30+ years older than you “son” doesn’t come off properly. Please, stop doing it.

To be fair, who else would you put in the 4 spot from today's lineup?  After 1-3, there's a big dropoff regardless.

Anyone

The Cubs have had the 2nd most situations in baseball where they’ve come to the plate with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs, just 4 behind the Brewers for the league lead.

They are 28th in baseball in converting those situations into runs at 44.9% of the time. The Brewers have converted 53.5% of the time, leading to 24 additional runs scored. Wonder how different the standings would be if the Cubs were converting at the rate the Brewers are (which is only slightly above league average).

There’s no margin for error with a pitching staff allowing 4 or more runs in 57% of games. We’re sitting here ruminating over some horrific at bats in the 9th inning because they needed 6 runs to win.

Most frustrating loss since????

Eh. We were statistically favored to win for like 12 minutes the entire game. It would have absolutely been stealing a win if we would have pulled it off so it's hard for me to call it some heartbreaking loss.

First time I read this I thought you mean Javy Baez. Which to be fair, probably would have been better than Taillon's first inning effort.

Not heartbreaking, annoying as horsefeathers. Assad missing strike 3 to Dingler by a centimeter, Nicos botched double play, Bregman swinging at ball 4 to walk us off…. Pick your favorite play,

I don't follow other teams, but I do think that striking out 10 times a game certainly reduces your chances of producing runs.  It seems like they average 10 strikeouts a game.

They’re 21st in K%.

8.47 Ks/game, to close the loop (having played 100 games exactly makes the math really easy). Which is 13th most in baseball, but the discrepancy is explained by them having the second most PAs in baseball (due to being very good, generally, at not making outs).

Old man is incredibly lucky he didn't get laid out on the spot.

I was at this same game and a friend of mine also sat, as he has for a long time. Either or both of us would have had some words for anyone acting like that ass clown did.

Yeah that old man should have been knocked out

I used to have main character syndrome when I was younger. Not smack someone upside the head bad but the type of person who would say something if I saw something I didn't agree with.

One day some lady parked her car in the middle of the crosswalk as I was about to cross the street so I told her "This is a cross walk, you shouldn't be parking here" She kindly responded "I'm sorry I just have to let my mom out of the car because she's in a wheelchair, it will only be a minute"  That's when I realized I need to STFU and mind my own business. The world doesn't need me to speak up to minor things that don't hurt anyone else in the grand scheme of things. You never know what anyone else is going through.

At the very least the old man should have been reported. He should have been escorted out of the park. You don’t have to stand for the anthem. In fact, if you rally believe in what America stands for you should understand it is a right NOT to stand if you don’t want to. I may not have turned and hit him back but he would have been reported. I only wouldn’t hit him back because I woukd want to see the game and if I did I would be asked to leave as well. As a STH that wouldn’t be a good look. But that old man would not be at the game after that encounter.

Context would change the math, but generally speaking for napkin math, convert 10 runs to equate one win. Again, context changes things and even if we're going to context neutral most analytics have fancy formulas and things that don't get to a simple 10=1 end point. But if we use that napkin math, you're talking about two wins and a possible rounding error in either direction. Maybe it's a little more, or a little less, but the overall point I'm making: the standings probably aren't very different.
