    I guess Benedet hurt his shoulder last night. Hopefully it’s minor. He’s been playing really well. Grady spoke to the media last night and Adam Jahns got the impression his groin injury shouldn’t be an issue.

    In general, I don’t disagree, but if the Ravens specifically choose to pursue him, they’re (i.e. Doyle) basing it on more information than his performance at Lambeau.

    Recoup the 4th rounder we just gave up and I’m happy but I don’t see the Bears doing it. They’ve been very consistent about how they feel about Bagent for four years now.

    Yeah, Cooper has them playing well. I was afraid a down season would lead to a mass talent exodus, but I think that’s becoming less of a concern with each passing week. They need to nail the DC hire this offseason (Dave Doeren?).

    Before the season? I didn’t think the most wildly pessimistic Illinois fan had them any lower than 4.

    They received a 2027 5th for Dexter and traded their 5th for Bradbury.

    I’ll be surprised if Nahshon is not a Bear. Who knows what the hell the deal is with him in NY. I know there are concerns about his coverage ability, but I still believe he’d be an upgrade over Jalen if he’s healthy, and I believe Simmons will allow the DBs to play up a bit. He also allows Kyler to drop back in coverage instead of rushing as much as he had.

    They can move on from Simmons after 2028 with $8 million dead cap if they so choose. I understand where you’re coming from. They won’t have first round draft capital to replace his production. But whatever. Worst case (not really; worst case is he blows his knee out on Monday); we enjoy an above average defense for 2.5 years and then go back to being where we are today (great O, bad D). Everyone points to the Rams as this cautionary tale but they’ve averaged 10 wins over the last 9 seasons with a Super Bowl win and another SB appearance. There’s always money in the banana stand.

    Yeah this is the difference between this deal and the Mack deal. That was made on the hope that the Trubisky/Nagy pairing would be a thing. This time we know that Caleb/Ben can be relied upon to produce an upper echelon offense.

    Let’s go. We have an elite DT for the next five years. Those firsts will be late 20s/early 30s and there’s plenty of contracts they can get out of after this year to make the cap stuff work—Grady, Dayo, Sweat, Kmet, JJ. Simmons, Kyler, Coby, Thieneman, Bush, Malik, Booker is a good foundation for the defense the next couple of years. Need to figure out how to improve CB in the offseason, but that’s doable.

    I believe the three year extension he signed this summer doesn’t even kick in until 2028, so he’s under contract through 2030.

    Sure there’s incentive. It’s the NFL. He could get injured tomorrow and they wind up with nothing.

    lol fair. As much as I respect the confidence and agree the Vikings are poised to come back down to earth (their offense has only scored 10 TDs all year and their schedule has been pretty soft), banked wins are banked wins. Fortunately the bears have the Bucs, Saints, and dolphins on their schedule, but they really need to start finding wins in their own division. 2-6 (3-6 including the playoff win over GB) under Ben obviously won’t cut it.

    He said effectively 2.5 games. They are 1.5 games behind them in the standings, but even if the Bears were dead even with the Vikings record-wise, they’d still be behind them in the division race. It’s pretty common parlance for people to talk this way when one team holds a tiebreaker over another, so I’m not sure why you took exception. Aside from that, if the bears played the Vikings tomorrow and won, the Vikings would still hold the tiebreaker over the bears by way of a better in-division record. It’s evident you didn’t consider the tiebreaker when you responded with your typical brand of condescension, and it’s evident in this response that you don’t understand the tiebreaker rules.
