    I’m not sure if that one is on Caleb or Colston. Just not on the same page. Carolina was in zone, I believe, so Caleb’s expecting Colston to sit in the middle but Colston continues on his route.

    291 on the ground, 269 in the air. 72.4% from Caleb. 501 yards of total offense. Pure dominance. the decision to go for it on 4th down was silly. You can’t expect this defense to defend 20 yards. The play calling got a bit vanilla in the 2nd quarter but I loved the fast start in the 1st after too many slow starts last year. for all the JVDB preseason love, I didn’t hear his name once. Did he not see the field, or just a quiet day? This defense is going to have to find answers quickly. Jaylon and Tyrique looked horrible. I know he had a sack, but Sweat needs to be more disruptive.

    Man, I really want Seiya back. I understand there’s a line to be drawn if the offers get out of hand and he’s going to command a contract into his late thirties, but the PCA-Seiya-Bregman 1-2-3 has been incredibly special.

    The expanded playoffs waters the feat down a bit, but the cubs made the playoffs 5 times in the first ~3 decades of my life. I can’t envision a time where I will ever take postseason baseball for granted. Yes, this pitching staff is straight ass. But this lineup has been otherworldly for the majority of the season. I really don’t anticipate much more than last October, but ya never know.

    I don’t really care about Counsell one way or the other, but I’m not sure what he’s supposed to do with this collection of pitchers. He’s been handed the worst staff in the majors and the team is on pace for 90 wins.

    He may never play another snap for the Bears again, and what we’re hearing from Poles and Johnson speaks volumes about their frustration levels, but putting him on the PUP list doesn’t signal anything either way. It was the obvious move to make. They get no benefit from cutting him and he’s clearly not ready to go on the active roster. If they IR’ed him before the release of the initial 53-man, he’d be out for the whole season. If they took a similar approach as they did with Bryant and included him on the initial 53-man roster and then IR’ed him, someone else would’ve gotten squeezed off the initial 53, if only for a day, and other teams would have had the opportunity to sign or claim that player. He’d still have to miss a minimum of 4 games and they have to burn one of their 8 designations to return. Because he 1) entered camp with an injury 2) did not participate in any practices or preseason games, they are able to place him on the PUP list, leaving the door open for him to return and saving a DTR for another injured player. Thats it. The Bears made the obvious move because it was the obvious move. We learned nothing new about their feelings toward him or their plans for him.

    They did not effectively cut Gordon by putting him on the PUP list lol what are you talking about and no, they have the option to open a 21-day practice window as early as week 3, positioning him to play as soon as week 5. But they do not have to open the 21-day practice window that early. Formerly, it was a 5 week period during which a team could begin the 21-day practice window for a player, but im not sure how the rule changes allowing PUP players to begin their window as soon as week 3 changes this (I.e is it still a 5 week period or is it now 7?). but presumably they have until at least week 8, maybe week 10, to open his window. Like it or not, Gordon is almost certainly here for the next two seasons, so ya just gotta hope he gets healthy and sees the field as much as possible.

    I went back to 1991 and found two cases of a team finishing last in pitching fWAR and having a winning record: the 1991 A’s at 84-78 and the 2000 Angels at 82-80. The fact that they’re playing at a 91-win pace tells you just how good the bats and gloves have been.

    All our injured pitchers are great and all our healthy pitchers are bad. As soon as the injured pitchers get healthy they become bad and as soon as the healthy pitchers get injured they become good. It’s what’s known as Jed’s Paradox.

    Man, we gotta stop with the “Cabrera could be the relief ace we’ve been missing” thing. I know it’s September and the trade deadline has come and gone and every single reliever on the active roster stinks so we can only pin hopes on guys coming back from injury but based on everything we’ve seen from Cabrera this year, he won’t be the answer either. He’ll just be more cannon fodder.

    This is the reason he was placed on the initial 53 man. If they put him on IR on Sunday, he would not have been eligible to come back this year. By waiting a day, they can designate him to return. They are allowed to designate 8 players to return from IR in a given season. If he progresses well, they can use one of the designations on him.

    Normal caveats about preseason apply, but I thought he looked good against the titans.

    Honestly, no, probably not. Like I said, I’m not Dexter’s biggest fan, so I don’t necessarily mind losing him. It’s the timing that really has me interested. I don’t really see the need to trade him if you’re looking at a 5th or later pick in return. I’d just as soon keep him on the roster, even if he winds up buried on the depth chart a bit. If he goes, his roster spot probably just goes to Lynch? I’d flip him for a 4th or higher right now, but is another team going to pay that? I’m doubtful. That kind of has me thinking it’s a challenge trade. No one has emerged as an obvious winner in the LT competition and the DB room is looking very thin with injuries stacking up. The Bears seem happy with their edge options for some reason but that’s another area that could use help. Flipping Dexter to address one of those needs before the season would be smart.

    What a waste of a gem from Holmes. 7 innings of stress free baseball and two relievers you’d like to count on for high leverage innings in October can’t shut the door.

    Yeah, I don’t really know what to make of it. I’m not the world’s biggest Dexter fan, but it’s on odd time to be subtracting from the roster. Maybe they like their group just enough there that they’re dangling him to upgrade LT, Edge or DB. that said, it seems like everyone is just running with the one Schultz tweet. We’ll see how it plays out.
