That was my biggest WTF of the video. That throw went midway between 3rd and home.

Rooting for Colombia here. No offense to the Swiss but Col-Arg could be fire. Colombia won’t be scared and they’ll probably go at Arg. They kept attacking until the end against Por even though a tie won them the group and they kept going at Ghana despite winning late.

We won the possession because Belgium let us win it. It was 53-47 Belgium in the first half and 64-36 US in the second. Belgium didn't need to score, they knew they had another game in 4 days, and the knew we posed basically no threat offensively to score. So why would they press to try to win the ball back when they can just let us have it and do nothing with it? And that's the only stat we won. 2.15-0.67 in xG, 15-7 total shots, 7-2 shots on goal, 21-12 touches in opponents box, 4-0 big chances created. All in favor of Belgium. The second half was pretty even because Belgium allowed it to be. They had more good chances to score (1) in the first minute than we had in 90. They dominated the first half and didn't need to do much the last 1/3 of the game. Our goal was fluky as well. There's a decent chance Courtois saves that free kick if there's no deflection. And even if Belgium had two fluky goals, they also had multiple other chances that could very easily have turned into goals. Oh, and they didn't even start de Bruyne (had started all four games) and Doku (started 3 of 4).

Maybe you mistyped but this game was definitely as bad as the final score indicates. If Belgium wanted to put up 6 on us, they could have.

This was the chance to make a run too. In 4 years, we’ll be in Pot 2. That means unless we get Paraguay or maybe Uruguay, we’ll be in a group with a team like Belgium, Argentina, Spain, England, etc. So unless we pull an upset we’ll finish 2nd or 3rd which means either a group winner or runner up instead of a 3rd place team in the R32.

Maybe I’m misremembering. But I don’t think Netherlands kicked our ass this bad 4 years ago. They were better for sure.

Also a bit dispiriting after seeing how good Mexico looked last night against England, even before the red card.

Freese played that like he was the Spurs goalie. It’s fine that he came out but once you win the ball you just boot it away.

Might not be the worst thing if we just lost this match rather than having to watch Spain really kick our ass. Belgium looks like they can generate chances whenever they want to.

The only problem with that response is Jose pretty much always spoke. He’d say he wasn’t going to comment on <insert incident here> but then he just couldn’t help himself and would say something about it anyway. He’s Michael Scott trying not to say “that’s what she said”.

Maybe I haven’t seen the right angle yet, but the penalty against Kane was way more egregious. I watched a slow motion replay and it was not clear at all whether or not Kane touched the ball. And if it’s not clear, then an obvious error hasn’t been made so the call shouldn’t be overturned.

Which we wouldn’t because Spain will beat us in the QF first if they beat Portugal.

Morocco-France and Norway-England should both be fun QFs. Please give us Argentina-Colombia too. Spain would be a clear favorite over either Belgium or the US, but if Portugal wins, that's a pretty even matchup also against whoever wins our game.

I'd like to throw Colombia-Portugal in the mix. These two knockout games were better, but that one is up there.

That's soft too. I mean I get it. But Kane basically contacts he ball and the player at the same time and has no idea the player is there either.

It's pretty wild that Kane could end up breaking the old record for most career World Cup goals and not come anywhere near the top-2 whenever Messi and Mbappe are done.
