CC Sabathia to the DL. Yanks expect him to miss at least two starts. Might not seem like a long time, but anyone think it makes them more interested in swinging a deal for Garza or Dempster?

They don't really have much to give for Garza.

and now this

@Buster_ESPN: Pettitte throws one pitch and now Girardi is coming to take him out. His day is over

.

They must have something, and this sounds like a chance for someone to grab them by the short and curlys.

Pettitte just took a one hopper off his ankle, threw one more pitch and was taken out. They evidently don't like Dempster nearly as much as Garza, but would you take a hurt Banuelos for Dempster, if they got desperate? Elbow issue, clean MRI, but probably missing another month or so, from what reports I've read.

Damn, the Yanks will be desperate now and they don't have the pitching prospects to land Garza. And Greinke doesn't seem like a guy they'd even be interested in.

It's a shame they can't trade future draft picks, not that they normaly have a high pick. Then that might be able to put together a more interesting package.

Well here's this

Yankees GM Brian Cashman says that he would prefer not to go outside of the organization to solve the team's rotation issues, tweets Jack Curry of the YES Network.

Buster Olney of ESPN.com (via Twitter) also hears from sources that the Yankees will look to handle loss of Andy Pettitte and C.C. Sabathia from within using Freddy Garcia, Adam Warren, and David Phelps.

The Yankees have decent prospects in their system worth trading for, like Gary Sanchez, Dante Bichette Jr., and Mason Williams. They just happen not to be pitchers.

Much like in the draft, the key should be getting the best prospects back in return no matter the position. When the time comes, we'll be able to acquire pitchers. People need to remember that just because we may be operating like the Pirates at this time, we do have money.

It seems like the Yankees have been holding their rotation together with sticks and glue for about 5 years now.

Yeah, I'm sure they would like to stay within the organization. Although I bet they want to make the playoffs more.

An interesting side effect is that it could give the jays more hope they can stay in it if they trade for a starter.

•One American League executive says the Cubs are basing their asking price for Matt Garza on last summer’s Ubaldo Jimenez deal. This means it’ll take two controllable, young players with upside to pry the right-hander away from Jed Hoyer and Theo Epstein.

Sounds about right. Granted, we have the leverage that there's no urgency to trade him, but that sounds like a realistic return. If someone with a deep farm system and desperation for a starter wants to give us more, then more power to em.

so you're on record as saying you will take more than what you consider to be a good return? very interesting.

Who was the other big prospect the Rockies got other than Pomeranz?

Alex White.

That's #30 and 47 prospect before 2011 by BA along with Joe Gardner and Matt McBride. I wonder what would be a comparable package look like from the Blue Jays for Garza (or any other team who been linked with Garza).

There's also the issue of how White, Pomeranz, and all the guys below have performed since that ranking, but here's the 2012 guys on the Garza destinations I've seen mentioned.

Blue Jays

d'Arnaud #17

Gose #39

Marisnick #67

Norris #91

Braves

Teheran #5

Vizcaino #40

Delgado #46

Simmons #92

Dodgers

Lee #62

Webster #95

Eovaldi #96

Yankees

Banuelos #29

Betances #63

Sanchez #81

Williams #85

Red Sox

Middlebrooks #51

Bogaerts #58

Swihart #72

Quite a bit has changed since those rankings though. Barnes/Bradley would be very comparable to 36 and 47. I hate saying Toronto isn't really a fit, but they're not. If we're wanting a close to the majors arm anyway. Also, if we can GET that type of package for Garza, it'd be highway robbery. I'm pretty sure Jimenez was one of the best pitchets in the game when he got dealt AND had 3 or 4 years of control left as well. I'm thinking we can get close though, with all the teams in the races right now.
