And I'd much much rather ignore anything Jim Bowden suggests, just as a sort of rule in life.

Touche. I somewhat regret even debating the damn thing. And by somewhat, I mean there's been three pages of bickering about something Jim Bowden suggested. My bad.

They forgot to include Jered Weaver, Kendry Morales and Hank Conger

What, no Haren?

Too old. The Cub way requires that you be euthanized at age 30. Kind of like Logan's run.

Now that Detroit is seemingly getting it together and are just 3 games back and behind 2 teams that they're significantly better than, I'd love to see them get back in on Garza. Would something like Garza and Vitters for Castalannos, Porcello, and 1 of Oliver/Smyly/Crosby/Turner be unreasonable?

FWIW, Turner will be starting against the Cardinals on Thursday.

And looking at their schedule, their Friday starter is to be announced. Seeing as Garza'a pitching tonight, keep him on a pitch count, and he could start for them then. Verlander/Garza/Fister/Scherzer is a very nice rotation.

I almost wonder if the Tigers might be as willing to trade Scherzer as they are Porcello. It's a guy with one less year of team control, but the upside and opportunity to buy low are really enticing.

Unfortunately, Dombrowski isn't totally clueless.

I would have to ask for both Jacob Turner and Castellanos if we are dealing with Detroit. Garza is a premium asset on the market this year considering not only does a contender get him for a run this year, they also have him under team control next year as well at a bargain.

Detroit is really going to have to cave in, to give up both Turner and Castellanos. Honestly, the more I think about it, it's just too much to give up for Garza. 3 years ago, when we traded for him and got much better salaries out of the deal? Things have changed. Now, a team is only getting a year and half. He's making more money too. If we can get a top 40ish guy and a top 100 guy, I'll be happy, assuming we even decide to trade him, which I still have my doubts on.

That said, I don't particularly view Turner as highly as I did back in the offseason. Maybe that'd help in making a deal with him involved, but again, I'd rather trade Garza to Boston, Toronto(if they stay in it), Braves, or Dodgers. Assuming any of those teams don't get Dempster.

if all we're going to get is a top 40ish guy and a top 100ish guy, it'd be stupid to trade him. garza is worth the future. if we can't get 1 high level can't-miss out of him, then no dice.

Agreed. In my view, we hosed Tampa in the Garza deal, so that trade is of no relavence to me.

I think Castellanos/Turner +another piece is a must if we deal with the Tigers. Maybe I'm down more than others on Turner, but I just don't see the guy who is supposed to be a top of the rotation starter. There is absolutely no way I'd ever let him headline a deal for Garza.

To be fair, Teheran is another guy where I just don't see this supposed elite ace type stuff so maybe I'm just wrong.
