    i will say that it's somewhat apparent that WAR is treated pretty much as gospel within baseball front offices anymore, and the best publicly-available projection systems can and do very closely predict free agent contracts now simply by forecasting WAR, and that most trades* will match up more or less evenly by the same tools *except where palpable desperation enters the picture

    assuming that this is a good faith pursuit, the main reason for this is basically that MLB likely juiced baseballs in 1987, and course-corrected the next year; hitting 50 HR while impressive is made less valuable in a diluted run-scoring environment where about every good player topped 20 HR if you google rabbit ball you'll find many good writeups about it

    the thing about sports is, there aren't really asterisks in it, that's one of its best qualities tbh "you are what your record says you are" sure yeah it's perfectly fair to gripe that you believe WMU should've won, or that NBC screwed up but it just doesn't really matter, a win is a win Michigan, for example, has been on the other side of back-breaking blown calls or end-of-game clock controversies before and you'd frankly look insane to insist those losses as wins, they happened the way they did and you deal with it, with or without all the added grumbling for years to come we'll probably win 7 games this season but it simply can't be argued that WMU wasn't one of them, fair or not in your personal view

    really don't like video review needing to get things absolutely letter perfect, just leave it there to overturn plainly incorrect calls and don't frame-by-frame everything, sucking the thrill out of sports great catch by Buchanan still

    this understates it a fair bit because it neglects to include the significant positional adjustment gap between CF & DH, which i think is like 12 runs?

    Harrison, Vaughn , Priester, Bauer etc. trades all seemed pretty meh at the time so we probably gotta hold our breath a little bit to see what they really turn these guys into

    the only trade i wasn't thrilled about esp from value standpoint, but seems it's pretty clear they fall in love with heavy GB tendencies and seeing our IF def who am i to argue
