    It’s really a shame that the catcher was allowed to hold the batter back to prevent him from getting into the box and therefore getting the strike called. Oh wait he just took too long. The clock is there. You know it’s there. Get in the box. it’s really a shame none of this matters even thought MLB thinks it does. They’re not expanding the game or making more money, it’s just a dumb thing. Can’t wait for a serious game to be affected by this rule nobody cares about or doesn’t bring in new fans.

    Commercial breaks after every out. MLB gets more money and fans get to watch 6 hours of baseball every day! When they have lower revenues this year because of the stupid rule they’ll cry poor and team spending will go down. Cool.

    Cool, shorter game. Now I get to go spend my time, money and resources doing something other than consuming the MLB product. Again. What’s the business proposition in all this? It seems like an absolute money loser and adding no new fans. If you don't think shaving 30+ minutes of dead time off of every game doesn't help MLB's positioning as an entertainment product I think you're alone on that island. :dontknow: I truly don’t think it matters at all. The fans are the fans. The markets and consumers are what they are.

    This is what people would have posted had the internet existed when the NBA added the shot clock No. Not even close. Basketball and football have finite amount of time regardless of a shot clock (12-15 minute quarters), baseball has never had a finite time, you play 9 innings (or more if tied) and it takes the time it takes.

    Cool, the Journos get less time to bitch about things. And a faster game is better for TV viewing, think in person/stadium viewing it will affect and again also just fail to see the business proposition in all this. Shorter games equals less revenue and you’re not bringing in more people watching/attending.

    I’m so glad this stupid new rule is going to cost MLB/teams money with food/beverage/merch sales at games if they are truly going to be ~30 min shorter. That’s not an insignificant amount of time of lost sales over 81 games, plus fans may be less likely to make a food/drink run knowing there’s less time to do it in game with quicker action between pitches. Personally I think I'll be much more likely to get food elsewhere before or after the game and minimizing concessions at the ballpark. Going to invest in the Nathan For You chili contraption to sneak in booze and food to games.

    Yeah, I think I really like the improved pace of play as a TV viewer, but I'm not sure what it will do to the "day at the ballpark" experience. Especially with kids and running back and forth to the bathroom and concessions, the game could go by really fast.Last year I went to a few minor league games and it was noticeable. The between innings was the most notable thing at the games. The games flew by.     LMAO, hell yeah Manfred! This is what the people want in a tie game, full count, bases loaded bottom of the 9th. Definitely growing and improving the game and bringing in more fans with this nonsense. And also guess what, this put the game to extras which makes it take more time. Absolutely malarkey.

    Can’t wait for this stupid rule. It’s so dumb, cool games are shorter so what? There isn’t some magic game time that there’s all the sudden millions of new fans starting to watch your product. The arguing/ejections will cause delays and make for more dead time and games going longer without baseball being played. So congrats you implemented a rule that won’t bring in new fans, will give your dedicated fans more time to do other things and watch other things if the games are shorter and consume your product less. If games are shorter MLB/Teams likely lose money since there’s less time for ad buys and less time for fans in your stadiums buying horsefeathers. I also think a pitch clock, in theory, puts pitchers at a little more injury risk/hurts their performance if they can’t take a little extra time here and there to regroup/take a breather. Good job Manfred you buffoon.

    I don’t buy his arm is good at all regardless of what the numbers say, he has a noodle just trusting the eye test. Plus he has no range (not that you need it at third) but the quick reactions I don’t see either and he’s so small he covers less ground when he has to dive to glove or hand side. I think he’ll grade out terribly at 3B if our idiot manager plays him there for meaningful innings. I'm not saying this as an endorsement of him getting time at third, but I disagree with the "noodle arm" assessment. I remember seeing him shifted over against right-handers and making multiple strong throws to first. That said, I think the Cubs have numerous better options at third. Would be glad to be proven wrong but I think he’s much more Lastella/Descalso/Villar type useless and terrible at 3B vs any of the guys mentioned above who play the position well

    I’m under the assumption he’s washed, but he’ll get chances to start if he’s healthy. I wasn’t aware he was this far along in throwing, based on the reports I was under the assumption he was barely throwing. Not already able to go off a mound. Edit: Never mind, sounds like he’s a ways away

    Then imagine if Mervis is actually somewhat legit and you can maximize some of the 1B/DH stuff with him and Hosmer and Mancini.

    You were never getting anything of value for Bote, even before his contract extension. My list of options never mentioned getting anything of value. Then there’s no point in anyone in the FO ever exploring trading him since it’s a waste of time

    Yeah if he can be an average passer he’s probably somewhere between Daniel Jones from this year and Josh Allen as a passer/playmaker.

    I’m an agnostic NFL fan and really don’t have positive or negative feelings towards Fields, but these takes are absurd. You trade down and take one more swing with him with cap and draft capital, worst case you’re still in the Williams/Maye picture next year. Better/medium case Fields is actually decent once you give him some help on the line and skill position groups. This isn’t that hard. None of the QBs in this class are worth pulling the rip cord on Fields at 1-1.
