  1. I want Luzardo, think he has the TOR upside currently lacking, but it's going to take a good deal more than that. Madrigal, Thompson, Triantos or Caissie and let them take a flyer on Marquez for Luzardo.
  2. You’re not wrong about some things in here, but Zach has been incredibly efficient the last several years. And I’m pretty sure he’s a good dude and a good teammate. Then they should, at the very least, be making play in games with the expanded playoffs if he’s that good. But he’s really like the 40th best player in the league, which is still plenty good. But he just isn’t like a top 15-20 guy like he’s talked about and expected to be.
  3. Lavine just isn’t a guy/#1 dude and shouldn’t really be given the benefit of the doubt here. He’s just an ordinary guy and maybe an horsefeathers. The team shouldn’t be deferential to him. Send his ass packing. Classic example of a guy who gets his chances to shoot 20+ times a game and average 20+ but it translates to zero winning.
  4. Yeah that’s not going to be a top offense in the league but I think the floor is quite high if things break decently. Maybe like 8-12th best in the league or so (last year 21-24 WAR was a top 8-13th offense, and low 100s wRC+ for same range) and then hope the defense is truly elite to elevate the pitching.
  5. I think this is the first time we’ve been linked to Conforto with sources/real journalists/blue checks, outside of message board/twitter Cubs speculation
  6. As a starter, I agree on Lugo and he seemingly wants to start. But as a reliever I really wanted him, he’s a major bullpen weapon and I think the best RP FA this offseason.
  7. Gonna win 1 playoff matchup, up 30 and have Lazard tonight and opponent has Watson. So barring some insane thing happening there that’s safe. Probably will lose another one, up 15 with nobody left and opponent has Watson and GB defense. Played Herbert over Mahomes in that one this week, horsefeathering idiot. Like a 25 point difference, should’ve played Mahomes.
  8. That’s a damn solid deal, sounds like he’s going to get starting opportunities but if that doesn’t work he’s a damn good RP and versatile weapon.
  9. Gomes career vs LHP: .279/.329/.483, .812 OPS, 117wRC+ Barnhart career vs RHP: .251/.328/.377, .704 OPS, 89 wRC+. Add in the defense, unquantifiable, soft stuff and that’s probably a good enough tandem that won’t be too much of a black hole. Probably get league average offense from the spot and well above average on the quantifiable defensive stuff and the game calling/pitcher handling stuff. It shouldn’t be too hard to hit 1.5-2.5 out of them combined.
  10. brother NOW is the time to get into it! Club soccer is outrageously fun. The pregame shows are great and are so low key compared to american pregames that last 4 hours and have 25 hosts. If you pick a premier league side to support the games are all over by the early afternoon at the latest and they all just take two hours. You'll never go back. Plus the World Cup is coming to the US in 26, so you get 3 1/2 years to get locked in before you can watch prime Mbappe set every record possible. Very true, I think the EPL is probably the best to follow for those who are looking into soccer for the 1st time. I started watching around the 94 WC and also got season tix to the Chicago Fire in their inaugural season as well as friendlies in Chicago. I started following Everton when Joe Max Moore joined the Blues. If you're not bothered by a Yankees/Dodgers WS every year, I would suggest the Scottish Premiership because the greatest rivalry in any sport is Rangers/Celtics, IMO. Is that baseball or hockey vs basketball?
  11. Conforto is kind of the last shot at a big bat, unless you think Mancini is. Yeah...the Cubs really need a lot more power than they currently have. Swanson is solid but basically replacing Contreras's power. Hope that Seiya can amp it up next year. Bellinger will hit HRs but unless he recovers from his swan dive not going to provide enough consistent power. Right now either Morel or Madrigal is our projected DH I think. Mervis is probably the projected DH as of today I think. Hopefully we’re still adding Drury, Segura or Anderson for 3B and Aguilar, Belt or Hosmer for 1B (with some DH work for any of those names and Morel/Wisdom rotation around as well). That seems like a competent infield.
  12. Depending on other moves, which I still think they do some sort of 3B/1B and C move. The offense should be fine, the OF of Happ, Bellinger and Suzuki should all be 2.5+ win guys with 4+ upside by them all. Nico and Swanson have 3-4+ win upside, catching should be okay, if Mervis is anything 1B with him and Wisdom is okay with a little Bellinger, add Turner/Segura/Drury for 3B. No real stars but every spot should at least be above average with even a few smaller adds. Not a WS winning team but maybe a WC team with every spot bringing some positive value.
  13. I wonder how available d'Arnaud is, with the Braves adding Murphy. He’s 34 and making ~$8 mil, Braves are kinda cheap. Wonder if we could get him for next to nothing if we take on most of the money. Was worth nearly 4 WAR last year, relative outlier, but has a lot of 2-3 win seasons. Him and Gomes (with Higgins and whoever else) likely lock you in to 2.5+ WAR at the position for the year, which is fine output.
  14. I was actually looking at Casali today, I think I prefer him the most. Him or Barnhart are fine I guess, still think Narvaez made most sense to pair with Gomes (short of a Murphy trade).
  15. I think there’s enough starts/innings to go around for all of them and not be held back. Steele, Thompson, Wesneski all probably have a relative innings limit this year still, so protecting them a bit with adding Smyly makes sense. Thompson may be more a RP/2-3 inning guy too. We might not have TOR guys but we certainly are building solid pitching depth of all above average SPs with some guys having a higher ceiling.
  16. Okay, so how do we cobble this together with Swanson now to at least be a 85ish win team? Segura/Turner/Drury for 3B and bump Wisdon/Morel to more roving RHH/utility guys? Hosmer or Belt for 1B with Mervis lurking? Some sort of catcher addition, seems like we whiffed on this to at least cobble some 2-3 war with Gomes + acquisition Another vet FA RP Another starter like Smyly or Kluber, maybe a bigger swing like a trade for Lopez or Rodgers from Miami? All that seems doable, not sexy but close enough to being competitive in the division I suppose.
  17. This deal seems fine, even as someone who doesn’t really like Swanson, go make like 3-5 more solid moves and we can at least be a WC team.
  18. I definitely could see them adding him and I’d hate it. I’d prefer Belt if we add a vet LHH 1B) or Brantley as vet DH/COF and maybe some faking it at 1B vet LHH bat.
  19. Twins just signed Gallo. So maybe an indicator they’re out on Swanson with this report today.
  20. I think that’s a pretty solid deal, he’s only 28. Think he’s good for a 9%BB/17K% and like a .270-.290/.340-.360/.420-.440 slash line. Don’t know why happened to the power last year but he has 17, 16 and 20 HR seasons, which is plenty fine if he can get back there and keep his typical slash line/underlying stuff. Plus he makes above average contact. I think it’s fair to project him as a 2-3 win dude most years with maybe a flash for a 4+ if the power comes back/outlier defense year.
  21. Good analysis/overview on Swanson. The offensive concerns/red flags are things I’m worried about with him too on a huge deal.
  22. Would’ve been a nice add/deal for us. The RP market seems pretty light so far compared to what other positions are getting. Still lots of other intriguing guys out there who will cost that or less.
  23. Probably, but it would take like 4-6 signings/trade additions. Which are out there and also largely due to the division horsefeathering sucking.
