From the same guy who said Alcantara would cost the Cubs something stupid like Horton, Caissie, Rojas and a 4th

I'm convinced that all Bowden does is look at teams prospects list and pick out the prospects he's heard of and prospose them in every trade.

He also suggested Wiggins for Suarez.

Based on what he suggested the Reds had to give up for Suarez, I am surprised it is just Wiggins. I would have thought he would say Alcantara or Cassie too. What an idiot.

I do think there's some weird sense to this. The Cubs have a really good offense and adding Suarez would neutralize its only major weakness. I'm assuming they're after at least one pitcher too, but it could be that Jed sees value in beefing up the offense at the expense of some pitching depth, especially if it's cheaper in prospect cost to do that.

But I don’t think it is cheaper to get Suarez than it is a rental pitcher. Of the rentals maybe only Cease would cost more, and I have doubts Cease is available. Best rentals realistically available are guys like Kelly, Lugo, Houser, Soroka, Gallen. None would cost what Suarez costs. And the Cubs need a pitcher or two way more than Suarez.

Good. I want them to develop pitchers and keep them instead of trading for them.

Nico has been the most valuable 2b in baseball, so I don't think they're going to move him.

I do think Jed might pull something unexpected,  though.

Pretty sure it won’t be getting Marte.

I saw the Yankees and Dodgers are asking about Brendan Donovan from the Cards.  I know the Cards don't want to deal with us, but Donovan would solve the 3B problem.  BTV has Donovan at 39 and Shaw at 32, so Shaw plus a prospect for Donovan looks good to me.

not that I think he's saying sources are telling him this, but Cerami has some good sources and I wonder if he's basing this guess after what he's heard about their aggressiveness. This would require a good amount of prospects being moved, I thinkq

I respect that . For Kelly and Suarez I move him . And I said this perfectly aware of what is going on with Brown and what his ceiling is .

I agree 💯 of giving up Brown for Kelly & Suarez! No brainer for me. Brown is young, but I’ve watched all his starts. I’ll leave that there.

He's just connected enough that you can't write him off.  It also doesn't help that he's a grade A moron, so if you have something where he's injecting his opinion good luck.

I'd be shocked if the Cubs do all of that personally.  That said if you shop on the low end for all of those (Lugo as the top SP, Bieber as the other guy, etc.) I could maybe see it.

I keep hearing and seeing Suarez linked to the Mariners, Yankees and Cubs. With McMahon going to the Yankees, I like the Cubs chances for Suarez but also afraid of how much it will cost to acquire him.

The Cubs and Seattle Mariners face similar questions on whether to upgrade from a current rookie third baseman.

The Cubs have received 1.3 bWAR in 70 games from Matt Shaw while the Mariners have received 1.2 bWAR in 80 games from Ben Williamson. Shaw has 6 Defensive Runs Saves in 562.2 innings while Williamson has 7 DRS in 662 inninngs. Shaw has posted a wRC+ of 82 in 252 plate appearances while Williamson has posted a wRC+ of 75 in 279 plate appearances.

ZiPS projects Shaw and Williamson with 0.6 WAR each the remainder of the season, Shaw in 42 games and Williamson in 47 games.

The Cubs selected Shaw out of the University of Maryland with the 13th overall pick in the 2023 draft while Seattle took Williamson out of William & Mary 44 picks later. Shaw is a year younger than Williamson, who played four years at the college level to Shaw's three years.

I agree with you. I don’t see them doing all of this either Maybe 3 of the moves he mentioned. And there is a path that doesn’t really give up that high a prospect in any one trade. Take Lugo, Gallen, and Bieber for examples. None should get a top 6 on the team. A pen arm, who isn’t elite but rather a middle relief pitcher, shouldn’t take a top 10 guy. Personally, I don’t see Suarez as a Cub. But if they will take someone not in the top 6 in the organization, maybe he is here. I think I would rather have Castro, tbh. And he would cost less. The only guys who would cost more would be the guys with team control. Sandy and Cabrera. They probably would require one top 60 prospect (maybe something more with that).
