  1. Hartshorn is really struggling.
  2. Boy this feels like a loss. Can't add on and the bullpen gives up a few.
  3. I still love Adbert, and would not hesitate to bring him back.
  4. Caissie heating up. Hit his 10th HR tonight, OPS up to .743.
  5. I don't see the equivalence. Ben Brown had swing and miss stuff from the get- go, and Steele had better peripherals through the minors. Wicks needs an overhaul of his approach or of his repertoire, because he gets hit all over the field, and it's been that way for some time.
  6. This is the thing with relievers in general. I've seen Anthony Rizzo pitch a clean inning. It's possible to dodge bullets in small samples. I think the eye test becomes much more important when you're evaluating those samples.
  7. Smokies had 17 hits and 4 walks and scored only 5 runs. That's pretty remarkable.
  8. I didn't agree then and still do not. Schwarber was 27 and yes, had a bad, shortened covid year. The season prior he had 38 bombs. His PAs ended up going to Joc Pederson (94 wRC+, btw), Rafael Ortega, and Jake Marisnick. They ended up spending more to get less.
  9. Mega- athlete. High ceiling. It was the right pick.
  10. Hartshorn now 2 for his last 21. First struggle at high-A so hopefully he gets back in the groove and gets promoted for the 2nd half.
  11. I mean, Ohtani is the greatest player of all time.
  12. Yes, and perhaps Cease was always going to Toronto, but the Cubs could have used the $ they eventually gave to Bregman to beat the Jays' offer.
  13. That Bregman contract could have been Dylan Cease, and that stings. I didn't love the Bregman signing, but I thought it meant we'd trade Shaw + for a big arm, which helped to make it palatable. When that didn't happen, it made much less sense to me. We needed an ace then (and now) and we already had a young, cheap, solid 3B.
  14. Did I miss something on Rojas? He didn't play today.
  15. Seems like a good place to stump for Moises. While his numbers have been bad over this stretch, I don't think he has fallen apart completely in the way that some other guys have. He knows the zone and makes hard contact. He has pressed a bit and started to expand. I still think he's the best pure hitter on the team at 22.
  16. Only speaking for myself, obviously, but I want a bit of a homer calling the plays for the local broadcasts. Doesn't have to be Ron Santo level or anything. You can hear J.D.s enthusiasm rising and falling with the Cubs performance. Boog just wants to get back to East Coast Baseball, a.s.a.p., and it's painfully clear. He's a good national guy but he doesn't give a damn about the Cubs.
  17. Len and JD clearly liked each other and are about as good a combo as you could ever wish for. JD tolerates Boog. I often feel like I can hear him rolling his eyes.
  18. There was an old poster here who would post game threads without fail. He was of a different generation, and would use the word horsefeathers in lieu of cursing. After he passed away, we began using that word in his memory, so to speak.
