  1. I feel like some guys should never be used as comps, because they are essentially unicorns.
  2. The Cubs' fanbase is awesome," Skubal said. "It's a ton of fun to play in front of. And whether they're rooting against you or for you, I love the fans."
  3. I want to articulate this better. Javier Assad just peaked. Tonight was the high point of his career thus far. Now, maybe he is dead inside and will feel nothing upon being told to go wait in AAA after tonight's performance , but I don't believe that to be the case. That clubhouse is also riding a high. I think that matters.
  4. Totally understand the pragmatism. Logically, that's the right move. I just think the human thing is to send Kelly down.
  5. I think the feeling in the clubhouse matters enough right now that you can't send Assad down. He just beat Skubal and one of the greatest teams ever assembled in what felt like a statement game.
  6. With this offense, when they're going, it doesn't seem to matter who is pitching.
  7. I hope they let this guy pitch in the highest leverage spots and keep Palencia in the 9th.
  8. Holmes just doesn't give up HRs, which is wonderful. He will make about 10 starts for the Cubs if everything goes perfectly, which is not enough to justify a top-50 ish prospect. I was willing to part with anyone for the younger guys with team control ala Detmers or Gore. The Cubs did not pick up anyone who will be a favorite in a game 1 or a game 2 with LA, Milwaukee or Philly. I'm not upset, and I'm glad Jed is trying something. I just don't love it.
  9. How did they pivot from a playoff starter in Detmers to a guy that, in his last 2 starts (at AAA, mind you) went 6.2 innings, giving up 13 ER? That doesn't make any sense at all. I'm not saying Garrett isn't a worthy project, but the acquisitions aren't equivalent in the slightest.
  10. 247 PAs in the majors. For the first 135, he was one of the best hitters in the major leagues. For the last 112, he struggled mightily. He's a rookie that has shown flashes of being an elite hitter. That is worth more than this return, in my opinion.
  11. Oh my. I like Zeferjahn but that is an overpay in my opinion.
  12. Also a good dude. He's been the one to catch the first pitch on Pride Night multiple times, and has been an advocate in general.
  13. I'm sorry, this was a joke. You accidently said no Cubs made the Cubs top 20. Which would be especially bleak.
  14. This is especially bleak.
  15. Eh, I can see why a guy like Made wouldn't be in play for Detmers. The guy is having a breakout season, but there are factors that (for now) keep him from reaching that ace-tier that would fetch a top 20ish prospect. His fastball isn't great. The slider is elite, but if he loses it, it's gonna be a bad time. He's allowed 5 or more runs 5 times in his 21 starts. Taillon, for example, has 3 such starts out of 15. His xFIP is a touch better than Cabrera's this season. I would love to add Detmers this week, but I think something like Alcantara/Wiggins is plenty.
  16. 2.1 innings into the Brewers game and Miz has struck everyone out.
  17. It's wild considering how many position players we've seen pitch recently that Taillon is seemingly less effective than any of them.
  18. Needed to keep working Ashcraft there, but quick inning instead.
  19. Mo is going to hit, and I think that's probably the prevailing opinion around the league. Ayers is a massive helium guy, and I'm guessing different organizations may have wildly differing views. If the right one is bullish on him, he could be a big piece.
  20. Hartshorn 11 for his last 64 with 3 xbh.
  21. He already does. PCA is at 6.3 fWAR Ohtani is at 6.0 combined fWAR There might be an actual argument for MVP.
