But I think that is how they determine if the runs are earned. I know everything is different. I get that. But for era sake they just take what happens after. So with the same outcomes Horton gives up 1 earned run today.

No. I mean, I didnt want to assume any outcome based on Busch's play. Its ifs and buts.

But one of those runs that inning was always going to be earned. Even on the error. The base runner surrendered by Horton pre-error would have scored with one out. It would have still been charged.

Cards are down three and the Royals have a pretty stellar bullpen.  We're probably about to be up 5 games

I don't want to get cocky but man if I was one of the other teams in the division it'd feel like it's getting late pretty early here

Okay, someone give it to me straight: why is that bald turd announcing so many games?! I didn’t realize how much I appreciate Boog until the last month.

However, the Cubs will end the day tied for the fewest losses in MLB since the Tigers lost.

And if the Dodgers beat the Mets, the Cubs will have the best record in the NL alone.

Is Shaw sneaky fast, or has that always been a part of his profile?

89th percentile sprint speed this year.  He's pretty fast.

Great AB by PCA

PCA with his only 2 career multi-walk games in the last the week.

yeah, the first thing I noticed about him this year was how fast he was.  I listen to one of the Cub prospect podcasts regularly and they talked about him often, but I can never recall them mentioning the speed.  It was a very pleasant surprise, and it was pretty obvious from jump.

Yep,   they haven't skipped a beat and keep winning in Imanaga rotation slot.

I bet Davy Martinez told the 3B after the game (or maybe he told him it during the game) to forgot about PCA in that situation and just get the out.

He was playing the infield back. So that means forget about PCA. Get the out. His alignment should have told the 3rd baseman all he needed to know.

It would have been man on 2nd with one out if Busch makes the play.  Ground out advances him to 3rd, fly out to Happ strands him there.  Nobody would have scored without the "hit".

Yeah done a little learning on the rule! I knew the "runner scores with less than 2 outs it counts" thing but didn't know the intricacies of playing the entire "would he have scored" thing.

I handle all scoring through an app, so the intricacies of scoring are beyond my normal scope. Learning is cool!

Even though he took an o-fer, I was encouraged by Swanson' at bats, both SF's were hit hard - 97+ EV just got under them a bit.  He's been in a little bit of funk, I think he's coming out of it and we'll see some big days from Dansby in the near future.

It’s extra nice not to feel like Shota needs to rush back.  I understand he’s slated to throw some live batting practice this week.  Hopefully he keeps making progress and we see him back soon.  Big boost to a starting rotation that has soldiered through in the face of adversity.

Love seeing Buschy hot.

It might be worth a longer thinkpiece, but, would it be worth the Cubs' while to extend Busch through his arb years and into his first year of free agency?  He's a shade on the older side (27) and usually needs a platoon partner for certain matchups, but he's been a reliable 1B with tools that should age well.  He should be a 3-4 WAR player in his prime if he keeps his production up.

I'll grant that it shouldn't be a priority on the same level as Tucker and PCA, but it's food for thought.

Spent a few minutes being worried about Happ this morning. The BB and K rates are fine, even improved a little (slightly worse in walks but significantly better in K rate). Slugging is obviously the problem, but was encouraged by the fact that at this point last year he was at .232/.335/.392/.323 wOBA/109 wRC (v .251/.342/.351/.313 wOBA/101 wRC with a .337 xwOBA this year). This is about the time last year he got hot (.250/.388/.525 the rest of June, .254/.348/.476 the rest of the year), so hoping he's still just a warm weather guy. But would like to see more slug even if it comes with a few more Ks.

It's absolutely insane that 5 of our regulars have a 140+. Happ needs to find his power, he has a pathetic .100 ISO. Maybe swap him and Nico in the order, He needs to regain his run-producing mindset. He is barely playing at a 1 fwar pace.
