  1. They can't be losing all these close games. This sucks.
  2. They definitely need to rest Busch. It's possible Ayers gets a start there vs LHP. Shaw might also do that, but isn't ideal given his limited wingspan.
  3. They have players not on the roster on the taxi-squad all the time. You also see minor leaguers not on the 26-man in the dugout after the minor league season ends. I'm not saying they'd bring up a player on Sept 1 and leave him not rostered for a month.
  4. As i said, Ayers could be added to the team, including for reasons you've said, depending on what Counsell thinks the team could most use. Same with a lot of the guys in Iowa you mentioned.
  5. 29th out of 30 teams in pitching WAR. Thankfully we have Gausman/Holmes now.
  6. I don't think I'm "underselling" him, he has no MLB experience and just 2 years of pro experience with only 29 games at AAA. They could just as well pick up someone with more experience off the scrap heap and save the 40-man spot, like they did Arias. Whoever gets the spot isn't going to play much anyways. Shaw may be back soon, but even with Shaw they could DFA Arias if they think Dean or Ayers etc would be more useful. It all depends what Counsell thinks he needs the most. I'm not saying it won't be Ayers. I'm curious to see Ayers in action in the MLB but I also think the catching position in 2027 is the furthest thing from Counsell's mind. Since he won't play much either way, he'll get almost as much experience being in the dugout and catching bullpens while not rostered. He'll be catching bullpens all winter for our guys too i imagine. They may decide him catching in Iowa through the end of their season is more valuable for him. Or not, who knows. Ayers is likely to get some playing time next year in the MLB as any good prospect in Iowa now should, They'll obviously acquire at least 1 other C with MLB experience this winter and Ayers will at best be competing for the 2nd catcher spot or more likely as a 3rd catcher in Iowa they break in throughout next season.
  7. Given the Cubs are in a playoff race i don't think they should be using the extra Sept position player spot just for rookies to get their feet wet, they should give the spot to the player who they think will most help them win. I don't know if that's Ayers or not, but i can't see him catching this late in the season without an injury. It's hard to even see him playing 1b or DH without an injury. I agree with Jason about the 40-man concerns. Later in Sept, the Cubs could potentially have him in the dugout without rostering him.
  8. Eww I blocked that out. I'm not afraid of them. Every team in the NL can suck it.
  9. Winning the division against a good Brewers team would be a very satisfying thing. It would also be very satisfying if we could stomp the Padres again in the playoffs and watch that Machado cry about it again.
  10. If we win the 1st WC slot I think we face the 2nd WC slot in the best of 3 round, which today would be the Phillies. They have some excellent SP but the lineup and defense are just so-so. I'd think our SP would be Gausman, Holmes, and then a bullpen game, maybe Shota or whomever is pitching best gets the first 2-3 innings.
  11. I think you're right. Force play at 2nd.
  12. Kelly has to scream that play to throw to 3rd.
  13. Ahh ok. I see others with the designs too I'm like WTF lol
  14. Is Pedro's bat design legal? If so then I see a new MLB trend incoming...
  15. The Cubs should consider using more openers for some of their SP. Could get more length that way and more effective bulk innings from SP
  16. Maybe it's a feast or famine offense? It's possible but we'd need to see more stats on how they compare to other teams in scoring only 1 or 2 runs. Someone has already posted that they've been shutout more than most teams. We also need to qualify May since that was a weird month and not exactly who they've been since. But also could be evidence pointing to the feast or famine thing. I also think if this offense is feast or famine it might benefit them since the pitching has been lousy and they need to score lots to win more often than other good teams.
  17. At least he's not throwing in the 8th with a slim lead.
  18. I think it might just be his personality. He's very laid back, maybe too laid back at times. He's not going to come off as intense/enthusiastic like PCA or Nico. I never had a problem with him last year. He played well until he got hurt. But loafing on the missed ball with runners on the other day is just inexcusable. It sounds like he's frustrated and the booing may be getting to him.
  19. I only watched the condensed game. He was walking guys in the 4th/5th/6th so I assumed he was gassed. Maybe I'm wrong about that. I'll defer to you guys who saw the whole game.
  20. I'm not criticizing the decision for the 10th specially. I'm just wondering how you let a SP who looks gassed stay in the game but then play matchups with another SP now in the pen who only throws 22 pitches. Heck i thought Peterson was still in the rotation and they were using Cabrera to give starters an extra day off rest. Maybe there's an explanation? Maybe Peterson will start in a few days? I don't know. There's usually a good explanation when CC does something.
  21. I don't understand how they want length from their SP but then put Peterson in the pen and let him only throw 1.1 innings while Imanaga rots on the vine. And why TF would they take Peterson out of the rotation for Cabrera?
  22. I really hope it's because he feels he needs to get more length out of his SP to save the pen. Because yeah Shota was clearly gassed. But it makes me PO'd Peterson comes out of the pen for only an inning. Like WTF.
