Problem for both Palencia and Webb are splits. Palencia has been horrible vs LHP, Webb horrible vs RHP. -
I'd say yes, but also the price difference as much as anything. I just feel there will be teams that will want Seiya and Skubal more than Jed to the point of them probably overpaying, which Jed doesn't like to do, with the possible exception of Bregman. So I guess anything could happen.

Boo. I really wonder about that with Steele. Competitive guy so he's not going to go light. Riley Martin is working his way back, could be interesting.

Well like I said it's possible he changes his strategy. Yes Bregman is a good example.

Hopefully the young arms we've drafted develop well but are a few years away most likely, besides Wiggins. Definitely could see the Cubs trading for another younger controllable SP.

Well signing Skubal would involve Jed changing one of his core offseason strategies, which is that he's never signed a top-dollar SP to a longterm contract. It is possible he changes course though, but going through all the pitching injuries could possibly make him even more gunshy. Will be interesting to see what he does at least.

Skubal and Seiya are probably the 2 best FA on the market. More than likely we get neither unfortunately, but we'd all guess Seiya as more likely but still a bit of a longshot. Maybe they swing a trade for an OF or bring back Happ

They'll kick the tires per usual at least. Hard to see them winning a bid with the Dodgers around. Cubs went through 39 pitchers and 13 SP this year, with their 3 best SP on the IL most or all of the year. If I'm the FO I don't lock up 30m+ in payroll annually on a pitcher in this era. Use it for a position guy. I am tired of all these average to below- average SP though. They can do better.

Last year Game 3 seemed to be an "all hands on deck" bullpen game. That doesn't help us though with our pen LOL, so somebody could get a legit start and be left in as long as they're effective but maybe pulled a bit early to avoid 3rd time through the order. Hard to play matchups since all 3 SP are LHP. Though Civale has been one of our best pitchers.

Hindsight is 20/20 on results. Rea is a below-average SP and they were right to put him in the pen over the other SP IMO. I'm glad he's pitched ok there.

Padres on a 6 game winning streak. Now only 2.5 games back of us. How annoying. I'll admit it would be kinda fun if we played them in the first round again.

We don't really have any effective relievers beyond Civale at the moment. I suspect CC is just going with matchups and/or throwing darts at a dartboard. Not much else he can do. It would be nice if the worst is over with these relievers and Cabrera can get into some low- leverage situations and contribute. Maybe he can make the 1st round playoff roster as a middle reliever if he does well.

Phillies only have +37 run differential. Cubs are up +100 run differential on them. It would be wild if we didn't get the top WC seed. Either way, we're probably playing them the first round. League's best hitting vs leagues best pitching would be fun.

The broadcast today said he's been really bad against lefties this year, they're hitting like .395 off him. Probably needs to get that splitter working well. Otherwise I personally don't know. Maybe location issues and just generally not sharp with his pitches yet?

We may never know. But the MLB would have a lot of incentive to cover it up if Ohtani were involved. If true that would absolutely harm the sport, and MLB would look partly responsible with all the online betting and sportsbooks they market.

They've been too good for too long to be lucky or this good. I think they cheat and I think they're the best at it, Like Houston was until caught. And not just cheating, but all the little things on the margins. They scrape and claw because they have to. I think Jed knows it and it might be one reason they nabbed Bregman. I mean last playoffs they positioned their roof so the sun was right on the Cubs dugout and played lame lowkey music during Cubs BP to mess with them. They're bush league. They hit on virtually every single player they sign. Nobody is that good.l
