It was also Alonso's worst season where he was sporting a .207 babip and Glasnow's most IP in his professional career as well as the first time he's topped 100IP since 2018. You can safely expect one to trend positive while the other is likely to trend the other way.

The bit about Glasnow's IP is factually incorrect. In fact it would rank 3rd.

When you are slow and you hit everything in the air, to the pull-side, with a 15% line drive rate, 50% med contact, and a career-low 34% hard contact, then you are gonna have a hard time getting non-HR hits. He's almost like a RH Schwarber. Interestingly, when Schwarber posts good BABIP, you also find that he hits a solid amount of line drives.

What part was wrong?

2017: 62.0

2018: 111.2

2019 60.2

2020 57.1

I don't like the idea of trading Morel but it seems to be a given at this point.

If this trade were something like Morel and Ben Brown and Cam Sanders type or low A prospect for Glasnow, Lowe and maybe one of their relievers, I'd be all over it. I'd imagine Lowe (who I've long been a fan of) can handle 3B and provide insurance around the diamond.

A little confused by the Lowe love. Didn't he have a lower wrc+ last season, is older and more expensive when compared to morel? Just because he hits lefty?

Well if the Cubs  don’t feel morel can play 3rd but Lowe can, that would be another plus. I am not saying I love the idea of trading Morel. But him and someone like Aasad for Glasnow and Lowe is very fair, as long as the Cubs get 2 option years on Lowe after this one. And, I have to think if the Cubs did something like this that would mean hey feel Morel can’t play 3rd.

Lowe has a career 126 wRC+, so you've got a body of work of a strong bat to start with.  Add on to that, you can make the argument his relative down years have an injury-based explanation that has since passed.  His line after returning from injury in July through the end of season: 235 PA, .254/.353/.483, 135 wRC+.  Lowe isn't a wizard with the glove, but you can make the argument he's a better option at 3B or 1B than Morel as well.  Plus the LHH bit helps with lineup balance as you mention.

I wouldn't trade Morel for Glasnow or for Lowe straight up, but in a deal for both I'd have to seriously consider it given Glasnow's upside, and what I'd expect from Lowe at a reasonable dollar amount for 1-3 years.

You're not counting minor league innings, pretty simple.

I mean, should he have? The most recent year that would leapfrog 2023 by including minor league IPs is 2017, so this just feels like a weird gotcha.

If you state that he set a professional career-high, then, yes.

Feels like Glasnow makes sense in most of the off-season scenarios. The one exception I think would be if they go the Soto route as the big bat. That's a lot for 2 rentals and there's possible overlap of what the Padres would want in return.

Tyler Glasnow remains a trade target as the Tampa Bay Rays have zeroed in on a handful of young pitchers, primarily from the Cubs’ farm system. It’s important to note that Christopher Morel’s name hasn’t been mentioned in any current iterations of a potential deal. Weeks ago, the Rays did some research on Morel, but that was more out of due diligence knowing that he could be available. The Rays, however, don’t see him as a fit for their roster and their plan is to prioritize pitching.

The Rays have engaged multiple teams with interest in acquiring Glasnow, including the Cubs and Reds, and gained some traction in recent days. That’s not exclusively with the Cubs, but as the Rays continue to do their homework, they’re at the point where specific names are being bandied about, which suggests that something could come together quickly.

That reads like they have a package basically there, but whether or not the Cubs pull the trigger is contingent upon other transactions.

I kind of wonder about that.  They're waiting for the firm no from Ohtani's camp and then pull the trigger here

Yeah I think that’s what it is.

I really hope the Cubs go a little bigger in trade and bring back someone with control along with Glasnow.

Lowe has been mentioned and his contract is super suitable. We can all point to the fact that we threw Madrigal to the wolves at 3B and he came out better than ok. It's a risky bet but one that they should be willing to make.

Lowe has 2 team options after this year too. So he wouldn’t be bad. Maybe a pen arm too? I don’t Diaz or Parades is added unless the Cubs are moving PCA.

How about a lot bigger? PCA, Morel and Wesneski for Lowe, Diaz and Glasnow. Sign Bellinger and Imanaga and a pen arm. Maybe trade for Polanco. Between Lowe, Polanco and Diaz you cover 1st, 3rd and DH. You gain 3 lefty bats. Bellinger stays in center.
