How about a lot bigger? PCA, Morel and Wesneski for Lowe, Diaz and Glasnow. Sign Bellinger and Imanaga and a pen arm. Maybe trade for Polanco. Between Lowe, Polanco and Diaz you cover 1st, 3rd and DH. You gain 3 lefty bats. Bellinger stays in center.

I’m in on that.

I'm out on Bellinger. The rumored asking price from Boras has only been going up. I would have to believe that would mean there's at least serious discussions with a team firmly over 200M.

At that level I would be out too.

I wish they would spend 200M for Bellinger.  And 600M for Shohei.  And 300M for Yamamoto.  And trade for Soto.  They'd still make money.

You got to appreciate the Mets going 12 months early because this could have been them this year.

Yeah, I loved what Cody brought last year, but I'd have to see another season as good or better before I'd feel comfortable giving  him a $200M+ contract, after a couple godawful seasons followed by one very good one. I've heard He/Boras are seeking $300M, which is just insanity.

I don't think he'll get either of those numbers from anyone, though. We'll see.

He can ask what he wants. But when we get to reality I think it will be something closer to 7/$182. And that is high.

I wonder what the hold up is. Feels pretty obvious the Cubs are gonna get him at this point.

The optimist wants to say "Well, they're still secretly in on Ohtani and think there's a chance" because Ohtani/Glasow combined feel like a great combination move.

The realist thinks the two are kind of dancing around hoping one of them blinks on getting this done to extract a little more value from the other side (or giving up a little less) and that the medicals may be somewhat complicated.

I think if Ohtani was still an option the Cubs might be willing to make rhe deal with TB a little bigger and add Morel. Maybe without Ohtani it is just Glasnow but Morel not in the deal because he will DH Maybe with Ohtani Morel can be added and maybe the Cubs get Lowe back. One can hope, right???

Color me skeptical on the Dodgers going after Glasnow.  Their rotation is a MASH unit as is.  The Cubs are in a situation where you'd rather have 3.5 WAR over 120 innings than over 180.  The Dodgers are very much the opposite.

Same guy says it will be Pepiot and DeLuca, which especially with Margot included feels like roughly Wesneski and Canario?  Wouldn't have been a perfect world scenario but I sure wouldn't have been upset, gonna be bummed if this does come to pass.

For as much trouble as some folks give Jed for not dropping 300 million on a player in free agency, he also hasn't really done any trades for MLB pieces, the closest being the Kimbrel sell trade which does not look like a windfall.  I guess Cuas for Velazquez is the other, and that one while not intended to be a cornerstone move doesn't exactly illustrate a keen eye for leveling up the roster(at least not yet). That muscle is far more important given his long term contract convictions, and with the team entering a (hopefully indefinite) phase where they expect to contend he's gonna have to demonstrate it early and often now.

I'm annoyed. I guess I was expecting this though since the Cubs connections seemed to die down after Ohtani signed. I assume Jed held firm and is patting himself on the back for not slightly overpaying for the exact type of pitcher this team needs.

Time to cast more lines or whatever stupid fish analogy he used at the Winter Meetings.

ahh, the sounds of these sweet summer children getting surprised at the cubs doing nothing in the offseason
