  1. Bregman plays defense, does he not? I would much rather have a position player vs pitcher during the regular season. Then it flips in the playoffs. You need both. Bregman and Valdez are statistically equal value. I would much rather have Bregman in this case.
  2. Roughly 6 innings vs 45.
  3. He doesnt. He's being claimed over and over and the claiming team is just trying to pass him through waivers so they can send him to the minors. He's been waived by the Giants, Pirates, Orioles and Yankees now.
  4. Dylan Carlson hasn't been worthy of a roster spot in 3 years. This guys is the emergency to the emergency and probably doesn't last beyond ST in any capacity.
  5. There is very clear audio of the incident and there is a gunshot prior to him being killed. I'm assuming it is the victims gun that is heard, because all the officers jumped off and unholstered to return fire.
  6. There is video out there of this incident if you so wish to watch it, granted it starts out in the middle of ICE agents attempting to detain the guy, so it's missing some context on how it all started. The video begins with half a dozen ICE agents wrestling with the guy trying to detain him and in the middle of this scuffle his gun goes off. The agents quickly jump off of him and swiftly return fire. Now I don't know how this all started, but if you are resisting a federal operation while armed and your gun goes off... Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
  7. The Nationals threw out there that they are listening on offers for Abrams.
  8. Happ has been smack dab average defensively his entire career save for 2020. His range and arm is as average as it gets and last year he took a huge step backwards in sprint speed. By statcast numbers, since switching over to full time LF duties in 2022 he has a fielding run value of -4. He's a C grade defender and nothing more. You can live with it, but he's certainly not a player you hitch your wagon to when your option is him vs Seiya Suzuki.
  9. He's not a bad defender, but him winning 4 gold gloves in a row is more of an indictment towards the position, and really his league.
  10. Everyone is fixated on Tolle and Early, but I think I would rather go after Witherspoon. He's not going to help you this year, but his ETA is 2027 and he's got the best rated curveball and cutter in their system. And the fact he's not going to help you this year means you can get more players in the deal whereas if you are looking at Tolle and Early it's probably pretty damn close to just a 1 for 1 swap and I'm not too sure I'm sold on those guys as being sure enough for me to give up a 4 WAR player in a 1 for 1 swap. I would probably do something like Slaten + Witherspoon + some kind of bat. Their system isn't that deep when it comes to the offensive side of the ball, so it Justin Gonzales too much to ask for? I feel like the Red Sox are already in overpay territory without him, but if the Cubs are saying they want a comparable deal to what they gave up for Tucker, I feel like it has to be Gonzales.
  11. So are we picking Happ just because he will probably be looking for the cheapest extension? If my options are Hoerner, Happ, and Suzuki. Happ is firmly on the bottom of that list. Not saying he's a bad player, but he's a guy that lives on a roller coaster of success where as the other 2 are just as good in one case and clearly better in the other while maintaining consistent success. Best players, please. I dont care about the Cubs wallet.
  12. You should expect political garbage in a Nico Hoerner thread when there's an entire political forum on this website? Interesting take.
  13. I mean... He's barely played for them and he's sucked the entire time and they signed him to a $180M contract and he's the one saying he should have done more research into the organization. You can't make that horsefeathers up.
  14. MLB without a cap is one of the most competitively diverse sports in the world. What is a cap going to do besides line the pockets of the owners and give them an even bigger excuse not to spend their profits as they raise the prices of everything in the middle of a stagnating economy.
  15. Why is his trade value ridiculously high, though? Because hes good with a lot of potential and young with a lot of control? If only the Cubs could potentially use someone like that in the near future.
  16. Kyle Tucker's contract would account for 25% of the Cubs entire payroll. He sets the record for the highest AAV in history and gets another opportunity for a huge career ending contract at 30 if he opts out. Pretty sweet deal. Worked out for Bregman. See if it works out for him too.
  17. I'll take being just a few outs away from losing the WS, winning 3 out of the last 6 WS, and the first team to go back to back in 2.5 decades any day. Are they unstoppable? No. Injuries happen, balls bounce, etc... But when you put yourself in a position to win because you are signing the best players out there again and again, you generally win.
  18. I'm assuming at this point since Alcantara is still on the team that he will be taking one of those spots, unless he falls flat on his face this year. C - Amaya 1B - Busch 2B - Shaw 3B - Bregman SS - Swanson LF - ??? CF - PCA RF - Alcantara Go balls out for a pitcher (Skubal). Get a decent LFer. And then bullpen/bench.
  19. Not sure how winning is fun? Why do you even watch sports if you don't enjoy winning?
  20. It seems when you keep winning WS that you keep making more and more money and the less the tax penalty matters. Interesting strategy. Wish the Cubs thought of it.
  21. You can play this game with every player in the game. The Cubs are going to have to spend on an OFer next year. They can probably fit in one more large contract. They are going to have to have cheap players they let sink or swim. Shaw is going to be one of those players.
  22. I wonder even if the Red Sox came in with an overpay of an offer if Hoyer would even do it. Everyone talks about how Nico is from the west and probably wants to go out there to be closer to family and any big trade Hoyer has made has seemingly involved some kind of thought process into the team his player is going to.
  23. Who is asking for Logan Webb, other than mentioning his name as the only thing the Giants could possibly offer to "overwhelm" the Cubs for Nico Hoerner. I dont think anyone is legitimately saying Hoerner is worth Webb.
