  1. I simply don't believe this any more. I'm sure the players do, but there's no way I can get behind management having WS aspirations. They simply cant say they are trying to win a WS when they continuously miss out on the best talent the game has to offer because they aren't willing to take a risk and go outside of the comfort zone. The goal of this organization is to compete in their small market division and reach the playoffs, not compete in the playoffs. 2025 was a successful season if you manage to set the bar extremely low, which this organization has seemingly achieved to do with their fans.
  2. Did we not just go through this? I gave you just a taste of the issues I have with the left and their extremes. YES YOU ARE BOTH EQUALLY NUTS. I'm out.
  3. Why do you assume I am? I just said both parties are nuts. This is the problem with politics. "If you are not with us, you are against us."
  4. Well, it wasn't the right that rallied around burning down US cities. It's not the right offering gender-affirming surgeries to minors. It's not the right challenging the science of there being only 2 genders. There are absolutely issues on both sides that make you both nuts.
  5. Probably because when you have 2 parties on complete opposite extremes, most normal people stop talking anything politically related because brain cells start diminishing rapidly.
  6. I dont know who is right when it comes to his average, but what I can say is that Murakami's in zone contract rate over his last 3 seasons in NPB was 72% which is apparently dead last in the league. By comparison for MLB, Joey Gallo's best season in MLB was 71%. Seiya Suzuki was at 89% when he came over and has dropped to 84%. I think typically they project a 3-4% loss in contact, so assuming the same is true for Murakami he'll be at 68-69% in zone contact. That's pretty bad.
  7. Determined only with a pitch that ends an AB. Throw a 95 MPH fastball down the pipe with 2 strikes and you'll beat him 9 times out of 10. You hope that after seeing that kind of velocity on a routine basis that he will get better at winning that battle, but given the size of his deal and the team that signed him there isn't much optimism that he will.
  8. Out of sight, out of mind.
  9. Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Cubs, Phillies, Giants, Astros, DBacks, Tigers. Probably a couple others lurking. There's more than you think that could be in play. I really wouldn't be shocked to learn that Hoyer saw that King contract and started concocting a similar offer for Gallen but with an opt out after year 2.
  10. He said he was high on both and now not so much. Just because one of them signed doesn't mean that the expectation on the other would lower, unless he's getting information that's dousing his flame.
  11. I have to imagine he's making that comment based on rumblings he has heard. More and more contenders are making moves to get their SP, which should naturally mean the optimism should be rising. Look at everyone in this thread. "This is good news! One less team to worry about." Meanwhile the guy with ties is saying "Not feeling as good about this as I was to begin the off season." On one side you have fans making logical connections and on the other you have an insider hearing the back channel chatter.
  12. You can pretty much say the same about every team contending for a playoff spot. Their reported involvement with those two ended with "checked in on."
  13. Orioles were supposedly in on King. This feels like a pivot after he signed with the Padres. Don't think it has much to do with what the Cubs are pursuing.
  14. I cant stomach it because I think he's overrated as a pitcher. He's not someone I would throw out there in games 1 or 2 in the playoffs, but the way people talk about him it's like he's supposed to be an ace of the rotation. He's still living off his prospect status somehow. He's a good pitcher, but nothing crazy.
  15. There's another rumor out there about the Rays in talks to trade Shane Baz. I don't think the Rays are in a buying phase right now. Think Wander Franco threw a pretty large wrench in their spokes.
  16. What makes a person an horsefeathers? Because they share different political views? Why are you even a fan of the Cubs given the ownership? The entire family is Republican and spent money on the Trump campaign.
  17. People care way too much about other people's opinions, especially when it comes to politics. Why the hell should any one care about someone's political belief when it comes to baseball, or football, or basketball, or hockey, or soccer, or any sport? Sports, and entertainment in general, is a distraction from horsefeathers like that. So why the horsefeathers should any one be asked about their feelings torwards a political movement on a Cubs baseball forum? You come off as someone plugging horsefeathers into AI to gather opinions and material as you research for a school paper. Nothing is natural about most anything you post. horsefeathers off.
  18. Because they aren't desperate. It's still early in FA. We haven't made it past the desperation phase where prices start to come down.
  19. I put more stock into initial comments than I do damage control comments. Saying out loud that you dont want to sign on a team with current Japanese players is just bad business. If a team like the Yankees knew for a fact you had no intention of signing with a team like the Cubs, what is the incentive for them to up their offer? I'm not saying that he for sure wont sign with the Cubs. But based on his past comments and the fact the Cubs and Yankees are named finalists, if I were a betting man I would put money on the Yankees.
  20. Why would a team have to forfeit anything. All that matters is his apparent preference to start out as the only Japanese player on the team. How does that in any way effect a teams future dealing with Japanese players? You think he has the power to tell a team they are banned from bringing in more Japanese players? No. But what he does have is the power to say I like the Cubs and the Yankees but the Cubs already have 2 established Japanese players and the Yankees have none, I choose the Yankees.
  21. We have like 6 open roster spots. No one is getting kicked out by the result of a trade besides the player being traded. Projections are an evaluation of the player going forward and the evaluation says the Shaw isn't that much worse than Hoerner.
  22. Ok, but how many teams currently dont have any Japanese players. No one comes to mind with the Yankees and if the Cubs and Yankees are on his final list, I have to give the edge to the Yankees.
  23. I'm only assuming they need to have a 3B in hand before moving off of Hoerner. Our PoBO cares more about 2027, 28, 29, 30, etc... more than he does the current year. He only has Hoerner for this year. I find it hard to believe that the Cubs cant get any of their players to agree to a FA extension. When teams like the Rays and Royals can get guys to sign career type contracts, I have to believe the Cubs just aren't engaging in those discussions with their players. They didn't do it with Contreras. They didn't do it with Tucker. I've heard nothing about talks with Hoerner, Happ, or Suzuki. I can easily see a way Hoerner is worth significantly more in trade than on the roster in 2026 for the Cubs.
  24. Not sure it matters if you take Imai at his word of not wanting to be on a team with his kind.
