  1. The Cubs have more than enough. Teams with far less revenue are signing multiple deals larger than any single contract the Cubs have on their payroll. The problem isnt the money, when it comes to the Cubs. The problem is we have a FO that seemingly operates with the belief that every contract needs to have surplus value. Outside of Max Scherzer's deal with the Nationals, I dont think there's a single mega deal that ended up in favor of the team. That doesn't stop the financial muscle of the sport from paying the price, but it sure does chase away Jed Hoyer.
  2. This is what will happen. The Cubs will give Tucker their "best" offer. Whatever that number is, will then be used to up the offers of other teams and Tucker will most likely land on the Yankees who were willing to go to $600M or whatever it was for Soto. He'll probably get like 12/400. And the Cubs wont budge from their initial offer and go "Ohwell, we tried." Then pivot to some question mark that if the stars align can be almost as good but only cost a 2-3 year deal. Or they simply go with Caissie and then realize that it kind of sucks to strike out at a 40% rate.
  3. I'm never big on prospects. It's impossible to do that when you have consensus #1 guys like Jordan Walker over there turning into an absolute turd. That guy was supposed to be a no doubt 40 HR guy and in over 1000 PAs he's only hit 27 and his defense is so bad it keeps him off the field. Smith just had a much easier path to the field on the Cubs because the Cubs could, if they got absolutely blown away by an offer, move Hoerner and put Shaw and Smith at their natural positions.
  4. I'm still blown away by the fact the Cubs havent already done this and instead it was Cam Smith they dealt.
  5. Pretty sure I've seen Palencia walk off the field like Misiorowski did. Why are we crying about a player being excited about doing a good thing for his team? He wasn't directing it at and taunting the Cubs, so what's the big deal? You know how you stop that? Taking your damn walk instead of chasing horsefeathers 12 inches outside.
  6. Tucker's season, out side of his defense, was pretty much in line with his norm. Not sure where this less-than-ideal is coming from other than saying he didn't put up a monster career season before his new deal.
  7. We've been singing that same song since the sell off of the last core and the biggest we have spent on since then with all of these huge stars on the board is Dansby Swanson. We have the ultimate combination of owner and FO that sit down and talk themselves out of needing to spend money on A list players in order to compete. I doubt the Tucker trade happens if Hoyer wasn't auditioning for a job.
  8. I personally would rather see Ben Brown than Shota. The Brewers have not faired well against Brown and Shota is serving up HRs on a platter right now.
  9. No thanks. If it were Tucker vs rookies, I'll take Tucker any given day. If it's Bellinger vs rookies, give me the rookies.
  10. Swinging at a bouncer just cost us 2 runs. Ugh.
  11. The throw needs to go to 1st 100/100 times.
  12. What was that, an 8 pitch AB without a single pitch within 6 inches of the zone? Come on PCA.
  13. Technically, so is Kris Bryant since he hasn't retired yet.
  14. Unless you are a fanboy, no one looks at Baez since joining the Tigers and goes, "Damn. I really miss that guy!"
  15. Never granted time and we throw it 12 inches out of the zone. Come on.
  16. Considering the Cubs decided he needed a NTC, he's not replaceable.
  17. Feel like if Durbin kept running home when Shaw had the ball he probably scores. Shaw held that for way too long.
  18. When you check swing a pitch middle middle and then swing out of your shoes at a shoulder high fastball, you just might be in a funk.
  19. Busch looked confused. Hoerner did not. He reacted to Busch not seeing it. As did the catcher. I mean, if you guys clearly know more than anyone else on the subject, explain why Carig Counsel convened with the umpire and calmly walked away after given the explanation and said "Ok."
  20. Did you watch the play? Thats what the catcher and 2B were doing.
  21. The rule clearly states that the call is only made when the play can be made with ordinary effort. Looking up at the sun and then sprinting to the spot where the ball falls is not ordinary effort. But keep on keeping on.
