  1. They aren't. They never said he was even on the table and now that Cortes is gone, they dont have the depth to potentially move one of their best SP.
  2. How would the Cubs agree to send a prospect they dont have to the Astros when the Bellinger deal is hinging on the Tucker deal getting done, according to reports?
  3. Hoping for something smaller in return from the Astros if it's Paredes + Smith
  4. Since the Yankees moved a pitcher for Williams, I have to imagine that they are out on Tucker because without Gil the Astros dont seem interested, assuming their owner would approve the deal. I have to assume that means they are probably heavily in on Bregman. So what does a Bellinger for Oswaldo Cabrera deal look like? If the Yankees get Bregman, they still have LeMahieu locked through 26, Cabrera becomes the odd man out. Is Cabrera a better option than say Moncada at 3B? Cabrera is certainly more versatile in the event he just ends up on the bench.
  5. With what the Phillies were asking of the Mariners for Bohm, I'm not sure I like the idea of the Cubs going after him.
  6. I highly doubt the Cubs are going to outright give Shaw the 3B position if Paredes is dealt. First of all, Shaw isn't even on the 40 man roster. I expect the most likely outcome would be that the Cubs bring someone in that's more of a defensive first option, since the offensive options suck, and then Shaw gets a non roster ST invite to compete.
  7. So Cubs internet is responsible for Shaw playing at 3B? What are we even talking about here?
  8. Yankees system sucks so saying their #5 prospect isn't impressive. Put Warren in the Cubs system and he's probably like 15-20. I dont mind Will Warren, but that's only because this team has a fixation on fastball + slider pitchers and have done well with that and Warren has a plus plus slider. Given the money Bellinger is owed, though, I dont know how much better you can expect than Warren.
  9. To me I still want a little something in return with a deal around Paredes + Smith. That's two 3B going to the Astros and I feel thats an overpay for Tucker given what it took to get Juan Soto for 1 year. Michael King wasnt 2024 King at the time of the trade and he only had 2 years and Thorpe was a 50-100 prospect. Paredes is arguably a better player than King with 1 more year of control and Smith is probably damn close to popping into the top 100 and Tucker aint Soto. Is there anything to like about someone like Zach Dezenzo being thrown in by the Astros? Hit tool is a big question mark but the power stands out and the glove seems at least on Paredes level.
  10. Excel Sports Management
  11. Shouldn't be a problem. Jed has no problem lighting that much money on fire. He voluntarily did it 2 years in a row with the Mancini deal. I think it's probably more to do with the player they are getting back. They might want a throw in with Warren.
  12. Ok, but how does that refute a report that they offered Paredes + Bellinger at one point and it was rejected? Just because talks are on going with certain players does not mean those players have been officially offered up in trade.
  13. Does it? That is the first report I've seen for a Phillies offer. I just posted an article that suggests the Yankees arent offering anything the Astros want and they "want" Gil. And Suzuki does have a NTC that he can refuse to waive.
  14. What sounds wrong? That all sounds reasonable in both offers and rejection.
  15. Cubs are an 83 win team in back to back years talking about a deal that would net them 2 wins on paper, if Bellinger stayed. They wouldn't be thinking about this trade if they believed there was no chance to extend Tucker. Probably the only reason Tucker hasnt been extended already is because hes on the Astros, who doesnt go beyond 5 years.
  16. I would do that, if someone like Bryan Abreu was coming with Tucker. What are you guys valuing Paredes at when you throw out these prospect names when you look at what it took to get Juan Soto? The Yankees gave up 2 years of King and Drew Thrope plus fodder.
  17. If the Astros were hot on the heels for Paredes at the deadline, I think it's pretty obvious they look at him as a potential option at 1B. They had no 1B last season, but they had Bregman at 3B.
  18. It doesn't sound like that's the case. The reports on Gil are that the Astros "want" him. Nothing suggests that the Yankees have considered that. https://www.nj.com/yankees/2024/12/astros-feel-yankees-low-balling-in-kyle-tucker-in-trade-talks-offering-crap.html There's also some rumblings on whether or not the Astros owner will even approve a deal to the Yankees. My stance is that if the Astros want Paredes + Suzuki + Shaw/Smith, then there better be something damn nice coming in addition to Tucker. That's 6+ fWAR of production with 5 total years of control and a top tier prospect for 1 year of a 5 fWAR player. That just doesnt pass the smell test to me, especially with the possibility of Bellinger going to NY. You just removed 3 talented bats from your starting lineup, for 1 in return, and 1 prospect projected to take one of those spots in the near future. Feel like Paredes + Wicks + some 3rd tier prospect should be more than enough to get it done. Then Bellinger goes to NY for a package including Warren to replace Wicks. Then go after someone like Cease with guys like Alcantara +.
  19. I wouldn't. Especially if Bellinger is going to the Yankees. Bellinger probably gets done first. To me even Paredes + anyone above Alcantara/Triantos is kind of pushing it. Paredes is 3 years of a 3+ fWAR 3B that's going to rake in that park. I dont see his value as that much lower than Tucker given the difference in control. I would need to be super confident in my ability to extend Tucker to pull a trigger like what is being tossed around. If you go on Yankees forums, they are posting tweets of how they arent really offering horsefeathers for him. The Astros are asking for Gil, but it sounds like that's not a thing the Yankees are interested in.
  20. Trade for a teamless player? Bold strat.
  21. I'd be fine with the Cubs landing a guy with a profile they target who was striking out 11.5 per 9 in his first go in the majors for Cody Bellinger.
  22. Well, neither does Hoyer. He came out after all the Tucker rumors started swirling and said "I expect Suzuki to be on the Cubs roster opening day."
  23. Because he valued trading Hoerner more than trading Shaw. It's easy to sit back on MLB trade values and play with numbers to say that the Cubs could have just offered X instead of Y, but when the team you are talking to wants Y or bust, it's hard to offer X.
  24. What an out of touch ideology. It's pretty ironic to sit here and say no one cares about efficiency as you poo poo the idea of trading for a 1 year rental because of efficiency.
