  1. There's gotta be better out there than a gamble on Luzardo if we are talking about top 100 prospects. Luzardo only has 2 years remaining. He's always had health issues with his arm and now not only did he have arm issues last year, but he also had back issues. The guy is a pitch away from never suiting up in a Cubs uniform and we are talking about giving a top 100 prospect? Ugh. Hopefully this is more the Cubs just feeling out the situation and not seriously considering it.
  2. Well, it's not hard to blame them. Up until the Tucker trade they've been targeting buy low candidates. They've had a pretty good overall roster for 3 offseasons and the best moves they have made up until Tucker were a "meh" at best.
  3. I like the idea of Castiilo, but I'm not trading anything remotely close to what the Mariners are asking for. He's owed $24M for 3 years. We could have signed Eovaldi for 3/75 and expected roughly the same performance on the mound. I'm not trading a Nico Hoerner to save a whopping $1M on the market. Especially not after trading Paredes. I would have done it before the Tucker deal had the Mariners thrown in a really good prospect to pay for Nico while the Cubs relieve them of the Castillo contract.
  4. Pretty sure he has publicly said he's not going to move off 2B.
  5. If you just want a cheap, defense first 3B to buy time til Shaw is ready, assuming its not opening day, then just grab Josh Rojas who the Mariners non-tendered for some reason.
  6. Dont care what his speed is. You think Bobby Witt Jr. is out there laying down bunts? Become a better hitter.
  7. No there is not. He's played 637 innings at 3B, including college, with 17 errors and a .910 fielding percentage. Put the playstation controller down. He's not making a move off of 1B for 2B and for damn sure not 3B. He'd still be on the Dodgers if he could.
  8. He's not Billy Hamilton. I dont want him thinking bunt every time he's at the plate.
  9. Not if the offer is fodder, like I said. It would only make sense if the offer is compelling and nothing has been reported beyond preliminary discussions. There's a dude out there on twitter suggesting they are looking for a top catcher or SS prospect. Pass.
  10. I mean, what exactly are you thinking the offers are going to be on a pitcher who had a throw away season because of arms issues and back issues? He's only got 2 years of control left, so it's just as likely he pitches 10 innings for you and never sees the field again in your teams colors.
  11. Luzardo feels more like a deadline move to me. There's nothing for the Marlins to lose by waiting unless you give them something compelling.
  12. He's 25 years old with a plus plus slider. This FO drools from the mouth when they see a slider with that movement. And we are trading Bellinger who is underwater on his contract. The Cubs arent getting anything back beyond tools to work with.
  13. It's just pure delusion to think that. He'll get compared to his comps. Soto is not a comp for Kyle Tucker.
  14. There's currently only 4 players in baseball with a higher AAV than $37.5M and only 3 players in baseball with a larger contract than $375M. I dont think he signs for less than 12 years, though. He's not Soto, so let's not compare him to Soto. Tucker has never had a season of 6 fWAR in his career and he's 2 years older than Soto. Soto has bested Tucker's best year 4 times in 6 full seasons.
  15. The Mariners can get bent, imo. Over the last 3 years, Castillo is pretty comparable to guys like Jordan Montgomery when he hit FA and Nathan Eovaldi. Montgomery ended up with a 2 year deal at just under $24M. Eovaldi just got $25M. Castillo is owed $24M for 3 years with a potential 4th year at $25M. He gives you more innings than Eovaldi so maybe he gets slightly more, but he's not worth the $27M that Fried got. So how much is Castillo saving you vs the market? $1.5-2M/yr? I'm not giving up anything worth a horsefeathers for that and the Mariners are asking for a haul because its "plan Z."
  16. Mentioned "two bats." The Hoerner horsefeathers is dead, imo. Shaw cant play both 2B and 3B.
  17. Things can change, but the Marlins told Alcantara he was not going to be traded a while ago.
  18. Why finalize a deal if that was the route to take? Valdez probably going to end up in Baltimore or something.
  19. I'm guessing either Marlins or Padres depending on the definition of "big."
  20. Because it's been leaked that the Padres are listening, like the Astros were listening, and the Padres projected opening day LFer is Tirso Ornelas. Heard of him before? Me neither.
  21. Have to imagine that's gotta be Cease. The Hoerner to Mariners talk can be put to bed now.
