Building an inferior team in a more expensive way just to limit the numbers of years committed is completely stupid. This team wants to zig when the market is zagging, and they are more than capable of just matching the market. You had one of the best bats in the game, under 30 years old, that is projected to be one of the cheaper, recent, mega deals and you walk away because it's going to be too long of a contract. But talking to a 32 year old and paying him just slightly less of the annual budget through age 37 makes all the sense in the world.
