I wonder how much the Glasnow/Ohtani thing is tied for the Cubs. And perhaps this is where the "waning" is coming from. Because they're pulling back on Glasnow so they can shoot for Yamamoto.

My theory is if the Cubs get Ohtani they are trading for Glasnow.  If they don't get Ohtani they will pivot to signing Yamamoto and using those trade pieces on a bat instead of Glasnow.  The fact that they are still being connected to Glasnow makes me believe they're still in on Ohtani.

Glasnow isn’t a bad guy to trade for even if they don’t get Ohtani, however. He is here in 24 and then Horton takes his place in 25’. I agree it works much better with Ohtani.

Frankly I'd be real surprised if Yamamoto doesn't end up in New York. Which New York squad I don't know, but I'd put those 2 as the heavy favorites over the field.

Me too.

Morel is clearly too much for Glasnow.  Something else of substance would be coming back this way.  Lowe, a reliever, etc.

Well, I mean the talk was Morel for Alonso, another expensive and expiring contract. so that shouldn't surprise anybody. Of course his name surfaced.

Alonso isn't being paid 25M and causing us to hope he plays for half a season

I liked that a lot (Lowe, that is) with Ohtani. I like it a lot less without Ohtani. Especially if it's like Glasnow, Hoskins, Lowe. That feels like all of your spending.

In that half a season Glasnow was worth as much fwar as Alonso in a full season.

It was also Alonso's worst season where he was sporting a .207 babip and Glasnow's most IP in his professional career as well as the first time he's topped 100IP since 2018. You can safely expect one to trend positive while the other is likely to trend the other way.

I’m not sure too many people liked that idea either. 5 years of Morel is more valuable than 1 of Alonso or Glasnow.

I said they shouldn't be surprised by it, not that they should like it or accept it

BBTV has Morel and Brown for Glasnow and Brandon Lowe as more or less a perfect match.

If Lowe can play 3rd,  than him and Glasnow for Aaaad and Morel wouldn’t be bad. Lowe has 2 team options after this year. And he is a lefty bat. Again, if he can play 3rd this wouldn’t be bad.

I'm not particularly high on Morel, but dear god would be that a horrific overpay.

One for one, yes. There has to be more in this sort of talk.
