The Pierre-o-Meter finishes at:

More day games and more heat = more effective Juan Pierre. His career numbers say so at least.

More heat? Do tell...

Havent you been reading this thread?

It has been decided that since pierre runs fast, he will be better when it gets hot, because it is simply impossible to have any athletic ability in the cold, ever.

That's a pretty gross overstatement. I believe that certain folks have asserted that Pierre's stats are better in warm weather.

I hope his stats do pick up to his career norms. However, the stats thusfar, and actually watching him play combined with the stats thus far have me very concerned. He's an absolute hack. Now, his hack philosophy might be what made him the premier lead off hitter management guys seem to like in a guy, but I've always had concerns about a guy who can't hit a ball out of the infield.

I was opposed to trading for Pierre. He's here and I hope he puts up numbers like he has in the past. Maybe a lot of those ground balls will find holes soon. But, there is plenty of reason for concern as he was coming off a .326 OBP, which is not good for a lead off hitter. I don't understand why we should all sit back quietly and be ever so accepting of how poor he has played so far.

The kid has heart. I'll give him that. But, he really is pretty one dimensional from where I sit. The best thing he could do is to be more patient with his at bats. Drawing a lot of walks would actually make him quite valuable. Unfortunately, because he really can't do a lot of damage with a bat, pitcher's aren't afraid to throw him strikes, so he probably won't walk a whole lot even if he was more patient.

How many hard hit balls have come off the bat of Pierre? I'd say its no more than 10, when was the last time he hit a line drive? Granted, he puts the ball in play a lot more than Patterson ever did but, little infield dribblers are about as effective as a strikeout.

That's why we call him Slappy.

But really, he has the most amazing ability to make contact without ever hitting the ball hard.

It's that Pierre Flair I guess?

Allright! After 104 at bats and 109 plate appearances, our prototypical leadoff man is hitting .250/.291/.317/.608.

I think the worst case scenario of his game translating to Wrigley has come true thus far. Not good.

Woot!! We found another Neifi without even trying! 8)

Anywhoo........it's May now so if slappy doesn't pick it up soon, no more excuses.

That .326 OBP is looking better all the time. :(

Well, good thing our $100 million payroll let us trade for a center fielder who hits leadoff coming off a terrible leadoff season and sign a rightfielder middle of the order hitter coming off two terrible offensive seasons.

Because that's how you build a winner. Keep overpaying for guys who are regressing and hope the trend reverses.

LEGITIMATE!

i should do a search and see how many times that word was used on this board to describe pierre's lead off skills in the last three months.

When was the last time we actually just went and got a marquee player- either through trade or FA?

Hawkins? Ramirez?

Lee wasn't a real Marquee player when we got him, and almost everyone else we get are guys who've been struggling that we're hoping can turn it around, or were just never great to start with.

Is this a Chicago team or a Kansas City team?

That's Hendry and the Trib. They're willing to overpay for mid-level players, but they're unwilling to get in bidding wars for top-tier free agents.

Hendry should GM a mid-market team, not this one. He just has no clue.

Which one of the bouncing ground balls to the right side is everybody upset about?

most specifically, the 3rd, 17th, 33rd, 34th, 38th-44th, 51st, 54th, and 64th-73rd. though the 21st one kinda made me mad. i have to admit, however, i rather liked the 49th.

that would be an even worse disaster than this. he would single handedly cripple a 40 mil payroll team with a signing like jones. you think it's bad that he takes up 1/20th of this payroll? imagine the damage he would do if he make up 1/8th or 1/6th of a team's payroll.

Ahh yes, the 49th was a beaut. I couldn't believe he managed to connect with that pitchout and send it hurtling towards the second baseman

One less mid-market team to beat us.
