I didn't want to see Corey back, but I'd much have preferred a year of Corey to three years of Jones. And I said that when we signed Jones. :x

I remember reading that on this site from several of us. I actually said that by year 2 of the Jones era, we'd want Hollandsworth back.

Hollandsworth:

.265 .265 .471 .735

But he doesn't have Pierre's flair or Jones' baserunning smarts.

I'm surprised more complainers don't mention Pierre's defense. His arm is a huge problem.

at least his arm provides comedic value. the groundouts just piss me off.

This was predictable going as far back as last summer. Pierre isn't good. He wasn't worth what we paid. I have a sliver of hope he'll pick it up, but I have a sinking feeling that we're seeing the 2006 Juan Pierre right now.

Like it or not, Patterson's performance over the last few years is probably the singular reason Pierre is on the team. That's what got everybody pining for a proven leadoff man.

Speaking of comedic, did anyone see Jacque Jones throw to home on the play that scored the run? It bounced where the 2nd baseman typically stands prior to the pitch. What was up with that? I don't think it made it 50 feet in the air.

We already had one. Todd Walker.

He should have been leading off last year because he was the best player we could have put there, but I personally don't think Walker is a good leadoff man. A .333 OBP playing in one of the best offenses in the history of the game doesn't cut it for me.

I have been a big advocate of being patient with Pierre, but the human groundout machine act is getting really old.

But as long as he's on this team, he'll be leading off, because of his rep and Dusty.

.290/.348/.441/.802 cuts it anywhere for me.

Walker rakes.

Guys, calm down. Once Pierre gets out of the frozen tundra of the Southwest, he will be able to beat out all these groundballs!

My God, everytime I watch him bat I swear it's an instant replay of the last AB. The only difference is sometimes he grounds out to the pitcher instead of 2B. Especially if there is a guy on first. It makes the DP that much easier.

I saw that....a 2 hopper to the cut-off man.....ridiculous..

I give the announcer credit (not sure if it was Brenly) but he said he had been seeing too many of these "lame" (my words) throws from Jock.

Hendry on Pierre.

Cubs.com[/url]"]

One player Hendry sees scuffling is Juan Pierre, who was batting .259. The new Cubs center fielder may be feeling some pressure of trying to live up to his reputation. Hendry said he thinks Pierre is "trying too hard and bearing the brunt of the blame internally. He's come up with some chances lately and hasn't done it. I think he's taking it hard on himself."

I have been wondering for a while if Juan's insane work ethic and regimen has caused him to burn out.

Did that cause his atrocious 2005, too, Jim?

the excuse factory has got to be in high gear w/ jones and pierre right now. but hey, let's attribute the struggles to internal blaming and cold weather instead of just looking at their 2005 numbers and admitting that these guys just aren't that good.

If Hendry admits that then he would have to admit he made a mistake.
