I would have happily seen Bonds hit a HR every time he came up to bat tonight if it meant the Cubs actually had an offensively functioning leadoff hitter.

Juan Pierre just made it all worthwhile with that grab. He totally just robbed Barry of 714.

Not even close. He's still crap offensively, one good catch notwithstanding.

I guess your interpretation of the events is based on how much you hate Barry. I'd beat up my own grandma if it would give me one swing at Bonds with an aluminum bat.

A ravishing .231/.275/.300 seasonal line for Juan after tonight. What a nightmare.

Not that he's doing much worse than the rest of the team. Stupid Cobs.

Jesus. As much as I hated overpaying for Pierre, I didn't imagine it could be this bad.

I need a drink (again).

That's an embarrasing OBP for a leadoff hitter. And an embarrasing SLG for a baseball player.

What trash did we get in return for Patterson again?

Nate Spears has a .225/.329/.239/.568 line at Daytona!

Well, excuse me while I clean up my drool.

Yuck!

I'm a big fan of Pierre, so I'm desperately hoping he'll get things going. At least he managed to rob Barry last night.

Credit where credit is due...that play was awesome. Shut up 40,000 Giants fans for a couple of seconds at least.

The other player we got for Corey, Carlos Perez, has this line out of the Daytona bullpen...

13 IP, 26 H, 3 HR, 14 BB, 14 K, 10.38 ERA

For those scoring at home, that's a 3.08 WHIP.

Fixed.

By the way what is worse:

WAAAAY Overpaying for a guy hitting .219/.324/.273/.597 with 8 SB

Or way overpaying (in prospects) for a guy hitting .230/.275/.300/.575 with 11 SB, because you couldn't sign the other guy.

Looks like so far, Hendry was in a lose lose situation regarding his quest for a leadoff guy

Unfathomable.

Even I didn't think Pierre would do this bad. We're getting to mid May now. He might not be coming out of it. This might be it.

Can't we just bring up Pie and dump Bynum?

Todd Walker would have been a fine leadoff guy. Leadoff man was only a weakness when Dusty would bat Corey leadoff.

Murton too.

The Cubs haven't had much luck in cf since lofton left. It's good to see Patterson get things going again, but he was horrible w/ the Cubs in 2005. The "fans" had got into his head. They pick up Lawton who had a good obp, and he sucked beyond belief. Now Pierre is awful. I really supported the trade, but if he continues to struggle, either move him to 8th in the order & move cedeno & murton to 1-2, or deal him, or bring up pie.

the more i think about this, the more it makes sense. murton's SLG is really low for a lower-half of the order guy... his .370ish OBP would look nice in the leadoff spot
