Standing 9-5 and close to the top of the division, I think I'll hope for the best and avoid the sharp objects. I don't care to see the replay once more just deliver the facts within a couple days so the team knows what the timeframe will be for DLee's return. If he has to miss a month, so be it. Just another challenge the team must meet.

Not a happy moment but let's see what the official medical conclusion shall be. My two cents anyways.

its a sprain - Lee will be back in a week or two. think of it as a really big trade - cubs give up rusch, williams and restovich for wood, prior and lee.

I'm not really as upset as the jokes I'm making seem to indicate.

However, it's times like this where it would be greatly appreciated if the team would be honest about an injury situation for once.

The problem is that the wrist is one of the most complex joints in the body. I've had minor wrist injuries over the course of my life. Sometimes I think I screw it up really badly, but instead it's fine and healed within a few days. Other times, I think it's minor and a non-issue...then it lingers for two or three weeks.

It's disappointing, but not the end of the season. Good teams overcome injuries, and so far this is a good team. The Cardinals were without one of their top players most of last year (Rolen), and they still ran away with the division. With good teams other players step up when a key player gets hurt, and I think there's a good chance the Cubs can do that. That's if Lee is even out for an extended period, which we don't know yet.

what would the cards have done if they lost pujols?

because if you want to make the comparison, we just lost our pujols.

The Cards would call up some no name who would go on to hit .400 until Pujols came back. Just like they always seem to pull washed up players out of their rear and turn then back into All-stars...

I'll try to stay positive in the meantime. Someone posted the likely Lee-less lineup in the game thread...

Pierre

Hairston

Aramis

Barrett

Jones

Walker or Mabry (1B)

Murton

Cedeno

And it's not a terrible lineup. If DLee can be back soon, we have the capability to stay afloat for a week or so.

Get well soon DLee.

And when can we start the injury thread? Anyone consider the possibility that starting one might end this crap? Because not having one sure as hell hasn't helped anything.

I think they could have overcome the loss of either Pujols or Rolen but not both. I agree that Lee is our Pujols; Ramirez is our Rolen. We don't even know yet if Lee is going to miss an extended period, but if so Ramirez, Walker, Barrett, and others still give us a fairly good offense.

it seems like it would be better for a rh hitter to injure his right wrist than his left...but i could be wrong.

if he goes on the DL, i'd guess that restovich would get called up. hoffpauir could be considered as well, since they may want to have a capable defensive backup for walker/mabry, but i don't think he's on the roster. come to think of it, i don't know if restovich is...

I've had a similar wrist injury in gym class in high school. The good news is the injury wasn't caused by a FOOSH(falling on outstretched hand) mechanism, meaning a break is not likely. However, sprains can be just as bad depending on the severity. The sprain will cause a loss of strength in the wrist, which will effect his power and most likely his ability to hit an inside pitch. If i had to guess, I would say he's out about two weeks, as long as there is no break or fracture. Then a full month before he's back to 100%.

The bad luck isn't limited to the Cubs at first base - don't forget that in a situation I'm assuming is relatively similar, Sean Casey broke two vertebrae in his lower back in a collision with one of your guys.

Anyway, Lee's a quality fellow - hope it's not too bad.

Terrible play as Furcal ran into Lee.... provide updates on the injuries in this thread.... we're all guessing around 4-6 weeks for Lee.

This is one heck of a way for Walker to be guaranteed a spot in the lineup every day.

Two words: John Mabry.

I could be wrong, but it didn't even look like Lee took a hard blow. He fell over sure, but his hand was already recoiling towards his body when Furcal hit him. Furthermore, it may have been adrenaline, but it appeared that Lee wanted to stay into the game despite the injury. I could swear at one point, he was standing there with his glove on his hand, crossing his arms and watching Eyre pitch. It was about that time that Pat Hughes incorrectly reported that Lee would stay in the game. Something smells like precautionary here.

Again I could be really wrong, I'm not a doctor and I have no experience diagnosing injuries, but I wouldn't be shocked if Lee was back sooner then most think.

Searching for the emoticon... oh, yes, here it is:

Mabry will start the StL series, I can smell it. ](*,)

Alright let's look at it this way. We won tonight, that's huge. Another series win.

Eyre is going to be fine, the bullpen stays intact.

Lee, well no one knows. He could be back Friday, or he could be out a month or two. It's a big loss, but this is a real test of character of this team. Besides the 2003 team, I haven't been more impressed with a Cubs team in a long time. They seem to be doing the small things, finding ways to score, and Rusch/Williams/Marshall have stepped in and done a decent job without Wood and Prior. Sprains can linger, but Lee is in great physical condition. I wouldn't be surprised if he played this weekend (I also wouldn't be surprised if he was out for a few months). If Hairston gets most of the 2B starts, and Walker moves to first, our lineup is still one that can produce runs.

That's not a bad lineup. That team can still win games and compete until Lee gets back. I understand everyone is freaking out, I was too, but that's not going to help anything here. We still have a solid bench with Neifi, Mabry, maybe Sing? Our bullpen is still solid. Dempster is quickly becoming a top 5 closer in the NL. Our staff for the most part is keeping us in games. Pierre and Jacque seem to be getting their swing down. Things can be okay even if Lee is out.

That was a lucky break for Pittsburgh. Craig Wilson was rotting on the bench for no apparent reason.

I agree. This isn't last years team. The difference this year is we really dont' have to rely so much on the long ball. The top and bottom of the order can get the job done too, and if Aramis can start hitting a bit I think we can be okay without D-Lee for awhile(obviously not any longer than 6 weeks) It really helps that we've gotten off to such a good start. I'd like to see Murton move up the order. He was great at the end of last year and he's been great so far this year.

Walker

Murton

Ramirez

Now we aren't gonna be world beaters, but we will manufacture runs. For now i will pray that D-Lee will be back soon!

I agree. I'm fairly superstitious but I think one needs to be started.
