Don't put words in my mouth.

OK, I wasn't trying to. I'm just saying that I don't believe a minor league system is as important as you think they are.

If it means giving up a ton to get someone of Miguel Cabrera's caliber, I would do it.

I hope you understand it's going to cost a whole lot more than Pie and Hill. A whole lot more.

I do. In fact, I'm one of the people that went off on a a rant talking about the Beckett/Red Sox trade yesterday. Were you talking about me in your last post?

That said, I view a Cabrera trade as very, very unlikely (I think a team like the Angels or DBacks are the only ones with much of a shot), but if you can take the a team like the Cubs (who were ranked like 20th by Baseball America, weren't they?) and piece together a deal for Cabrera, I thin you're getting your worth. But it is very difficult to speculate how much it would take to get Cabrera, even using Beckett (and the rest of the firesale) as a precedent.

The Cubs were ranked 15th.

I broke my wrist 3 years ago. Mine was a colles fracture (distal radius). The distal means that the break is near the end of the bone. The radius was broken just below the wrist. The radius has a weak spot near the wrist where the bone is less dense. Mine was severe enough that you could see a deformity in my wrist. The doctor had to jerk and pull until my bones were lined up.

Being in a cast for 6 weeks will cause the muscles to atrophy in his arm. He'll probably get a new cast that doesn't go past the elbow in 3 weeks. Plus since he's right handed he wont be able to sign autographs. Good thing he signed the contract before breaking his arm. It takes some time to get the strength back in his arm after they take the cast off. The severity of the brake doesn't really matter, it still needs 6 weeks to heal in a cast. The ligaments could also be damaged.

I have no idea if this was mentioned anywhere else, since there are 15 threads devoted to Lee -- but I read that Jacque Jones played first base into college, and actually was ready to play it for the Twins a few years back.

What about moving Jones to first and calling Pie up to play right? Jones probably wouldn't be great at the position, but I don't think Walker is going to exactly be Gold Glove. I know it seems completely unorthodox (therefore the Cubs would never do it), but I'd rather replace Lee in our lineup with Pie than with Hairston/Mabry/Restovich.

Just a thought.

If one of the corner guys could play 1B, I'd be all for such a thing, as long as Pie would get everyday duty. If he does great, fantastic, if he sputters along, send him down when Lee returns. If he sucks, send him back and get him more work.

I actually wouldn't mind that at all. Though, I'd probably still bring up Restovich also. DFA Bynum and Pie can play against the righties and Restovich plays against the lefties. Restovich becomes the big bopper off the bench.

I'm torn. I want Felix to spend most, if not all, of this season at Iowa both to develop and so I can see him in person more often. However, I really want to see him given a chance with the big boys.

Man, Woody Paige is an idiot. It would be nice if these morons at ESPN would research their information before they spew it out on national television.

Cedeno and Murton haven't disappointed. Pie could breathe some life into this team. Sure, he's probably not entirely ready, but they discussed bringing him up last year before the injury.

Atlanta sure doesn't seem to have any trouble mixing and matching rookies with their veterans.

For all those people saying the season is over and tossing in the towel, they sure are coming up with a lot of solutions and a lot of posts. I guess NSBB won't be as busy in the coming weeks because so many people aren't goimg to be interested. Oh well, less trolls i guess.

Dude, get over yourself.

Oh holy people who worship the Cubs regardless of what happens!! We loley trolls who sometimes questions moves by the Cubs or get upset when the best player on the team gets injured are so unworthy of your greatness. I bow down to thee.

Just because people are having an emotional reaction to Lee's injury doesn't mean they "aren't going to be interested".

And This is a perfect example of the labeling I'm talking about. I get called out by 2 Mods for calling people trolls when clearly I am talking about the interest level in the Cubs and the first response goes unnoticed.

I take offense to the fact that the above post wasn't dealt with the same degree. I am not a "holy person who worships the Cubs" nor am I labeling any person upset at their misfortune. Rather then "getting over myself" why don't you ask my intentions rather then jumping to conclusions.

If you take offense to what I said, I'm sorry, but I took offense to your post and others to the same effect (beyond this thread).

Some people act like if someone criticizes the Cubs in any way (i.e. "Neifi sucks, Dusty sucks, Macias sucks, Jones in RF, etc) this person is not a "true fan". That is absurd. I root for the Cubs like hell. I hate the way Dusty uses Neifi. I hate his love for vets over youth. I hate the love for speed over OBP at the top of the order. I hated the Jones signing. Does this mean I'm rooting against these people? Of course not. It's downright stupid to say that I am. Just because I disagree with the team philosophy doesn't mean I'm rooting against them. I'm so sick of people claiming that. I hate it. The, "oh well, I'm going to be a true fan and "believe" in the team" crap is what I hate. I don't believe. I hope, but I don't believe. If I'm wrong, I'll be very glad. I'm hoping like hell that I'm wrong and this team can do something special. However, I consider myself a realist and I don't believe they are equiped to do so.

In closing, I took issue with what you wrote because I read it as, "If you don't think the Cubs are good without D-Lee (or whoever), then you're not a good fan. I'm glad you're not interested, get lost." If that's not what you meant, fine, I'm glad and I'm sorry.

Look -- I don't know how far back this got started, but *everyone* who wants to argue about who is a "real fan" or what a "real fan" does or does not do is strongly advised to take it to rants and to drop any namecalling.

You are right and, again, I apologize if I offended anyone.

Soapy, I aprreciate the apology and I certainly apologize for writing such a leading post.

I am sure this won't be the last time 2 posters have a miscommunication. I hope that, in the future, we can all resolve it in similar friendly terms.
