Restovich isn't with the Iowa Cubs tonight. The announcers are guessing he's getting the callup tommorow.

So, now that the season is over, please put in suggestions for how you think I should spend this summer.

he'll be back by summer.

Do the math though. 6 weeks in a cast. After that, his wrist will be the size of a pencil (I know, I've broken my wrist before). Then it will be weeks to build it back up. At least 10 weeks total.

That's July. We probably won't see him until right before, or after, the All Star game.

We can put a stop to trade rumors.

"We'll make a decision [late Thursday] on who we want to add to the roster in an in-house move," Hendry said. "You're not going to replace Derrek Lee in any kind of trade in April. You're probably not going to replace him anytime in a trade as hard as you might try."

Translation:

"We're going to get ripped off if we try and trade for a guy 2 weeks into the season when teams know we are in a dire situation, so we'll sit tight until we know how long he's out.

Exactly. Hendry's NOT a dumbass. He's not going to give up studs in the farm for this.

And why are we talking about trading Prior again?

....because he never pitches...

I know, and I doubt Olerud does too. That has Gaetti part 2 written all over it , and I'm talking about 99, not 98.

I'm asking for 2 months of Olerud, not 1.5 seasons.

Our options are limited for players available who can play first and be done away with when Lee returns/move to another position. I'm just throwing out a name that I think would work.

If he did what he did last year, yeah. I just don't want to trust a player that old. I think it's too risky. Clark would put up his line no prob.

last year was clarks first season with a .300+ OBP since '01. He's hardly a guarantee. And we'd have to give up something to get him.

I like the olerud plan better.

Does anybody know if the automatic no-trade clause til June 15 for players who sign deals in the offseason applies to minor league deals?

I could see Carlos Pena coming over from the Yanks as a pretty good deal.

But he had a great 2003. \:D/

You can always become a White Sox bandwagon fan. There are plenty of those right now.

Don't suggest such a horrible thing on this board...

Why is it that I get sucked in year after year believing that our luck is going to turn and the Cubs will put it all together. I thought things had to get better after all the injuries from the past two years. Wood we knew about...Prior we could expect, but losing D-Lee is a blow that's going to hurt for awhile. And to think I was about to buy my D-Lee pinstripes to replace my Sammy jersey now that he resigned.

I listened to a Cubs Podcast today (Cubscast) which was recorded earlier today. It said, after the game, Lee went out and gave high-fives with his supposedly injured hand.

Everything I heard is that it was heavily wrapped/iced after the game...

Of all the things you could have suggested. Only being a bandwagon Yankees fan would be worse.

Yeah give up if you want. But I'm still gonna be watching this team rooting for them all the way! Common guys, everybody just needs to step up! Let's just see how they play the games the next few weeks.

I'm not giving up. But this officially lowered my expectations, on a scale of 1 to 10, to a -8. The only good thing is that they can't fail to meet my expectations.

If Ramirez is ever gonna bust out and be a top 10 player, now would be a good time. And Jones, please start having a career year. And a career year by Pierre would be good as well. Time for the Cubs to step it up.

Call me crazy, but I like what Dusty said here:

"You never see anyone lose two guys on one play," Cubs manager Dusty Baker said after the game. "But nobody cares if Lee's hurt or not except us and the people in Chicago and the people who know him. We'll just have to adjust and just keep on adjusting."

No excuses.

He says that now, but he'll use it and anything else as an excuse if we lose.

10 weeks missed = 65 games total without DLee...

Lets hope we have good production from our #3 hitter and solid D at 1B whoever plays. If and when Wood/Prior come back ... well, let's just hope we still have a 2nd half of the season to play for!

Go Cubs?

We'll see, but he's been a different guy so far this season, and last year's Cubs would have folded up their tents after wathcing their best player get hurt like that. This team came back; its a good sign.

I like the quote. And he's right. Now let's hope for a productive replacement. But more importantly, let us hope Aramis comes out of whatever funk he is in.

You have to ask if you're rooting for the team?

Did you hear the noise while that was happening last night? It was the God's laughing at us. "We just took away their MVP candidate, we might as well let them win the game."

Well, here we go. A lot of us really clamoured for a big middle of the order type hitter last offseason and we got Jones instead.

This is going to take lots and lots of career-best streaks, to overcome. Unless our pitching is lights out, we're in some serious trouble for the next couple months.

What "big middle of the order type hitters" were available last offseason? And I mean available so Brian Giles doesn't count.
